Basketball is a waaay easier. The sheer number of kids on the roster, the fact freshmen can come in and immediately contribute routinely, and the much less spending differential all make hoops a much easier build.
Basketball is a speed boat. Football is a shipping tanker.
We are so far behind it football in facilities, spending, support, people just don't understand it.
Ash may or may not be the right guy, but we wouldn't know if anyone was at this point. It's all about recruiting. If he can do it for a few years consistently we will have a chance. If not, we won't. It's going to take a tremendous amount of work and some good fortune.
Hoops is much closer. A few players and a coach can obviously pay immediate dividends. In football that does nothing.
