OT: Sepp Blatter to resign

He is guilty and now he knows that they have the evidence on him. Or, Putin told him if Russia loses the WC while he is in office, he will end up in a ditch in Siberia.

They have the smoking gun, or some of the folk who were arrested are all to willing to spill in exchange for leniency. He's falling on his sword to save face. Good riddance.

No chance Qatar keeps the World Cup now. United States is obviously in contention for it but would not be surprised if it went to a place like England (a country that has the infrastructure already in place) first and then 2026 to the US.

That was quick. The weasels should spend some years sweeping empty abandoned stadiums in Brazil that were built where they were not needed and paid for by people who could not afford them.

There is no better place in the world to have these global, multi city, multi site events. Every Olympics and World Cup should be held in the USA.

California alone has more ready stadiums for the WC than most countries.

How much credit, if any, goes to the new AG, Lynch. I just heard Lupica give her a lot of credit, and not sure if I agree as I don't know much about FIFA.

I doubt Russia loses the 2018 WC, but Qatar will probably lose 2022 to the US. Having Russia in 2018 typically means that it won't be held in Europe the next go around. Logical emergency replacement is the US. Nothing needs to be built, so it would be just the logistical side of organizing such a huge event.

Batter was a jackass over the weekend saying he'd get back at those who didn't support him during the election Friday. Bad Karma. One of those must have the smoking gun and made him aware that idle threats are never a good idea.
F-him! I hope there is more to this story and that ass ends up in jail

The USA World Cup is still the most attended WC ever. I still remember how big of a deal Italy vs. Ireland at Giants Stadium was.

We should get both the 2018 and 2022...f*** Putin and Qatar

Definitely. We have 32 NFL stadiums that can easily be converted to soccer.

We also have 13 stadiums used for college football (no pro games) that seat over 90,000 fans.

ohh who the hell cares?

Soccer sucks. Very similar to our recruiting: Lots of nothing, a flurry of activity and then it sails wide of the goal.

Its the sport of the poor and unwashed.

If you match up Italy vs Chile at Met Life Stadium you will have a sell out in no time.

Match up Mexico vs France in Dallas and you will also have overflow of fans

And this is still as false as it was the last time you said it.

I'm not really a soccer fan, but you just sound pathetic.

Throw it back to Brazil for 2018, and let them actually keep some of the proceeds this time. They have the infrastructure in place.
At least they'd be able to use the parking lots of those new stadiums for something besides a place to store buses.

Historically, that statement is largely true. In most countries where soccer is popular, which is most countries, it has traditionally been the sport of the common working people. Who have generally been poor. And I suspect we would consider the sanitation of their living conditions to be substandard.

But why do you view that fact with such apparent contempt?

Do not forget Australia, who also has enough stadiums to host currently under their plan.

"Its the sport of the poor and unwashed."

And the sport with the highest salaries in the world... and the biggest ratings... and the biggest audience.

The world is so much bigger than just America.

While I don't agree the US should host every event, I do agree their are only a handful of countries in the world that should. When was the last time and Olympic country actually made money? The amount of money countries spend on infrastructure only to see it never used again is absurd.

But that would be the case for a US Olympics too. Or rather, under the current system, no country is going to get away with an LA 1984, where they mostly use existing buildings, etc. The IOC knows that its a point of pride to host, and that up and coming nations and nations on the backside of history will both promise lavish new buildings in order to get the right to host. Really, maybe we SHOULD let the Qatars of the world host. Let them use some of the oil and gas money we give them on building this crap instead of a poor nation like Brazil or a fading one like the UK.

Either that, or there has to be a new system where reusing current infrastructure is primary. But that is somewhat unfair in a world where there are lots of up and coming nations. Just think of Japan in the 1960s, Korea in the 1980s, or China in the 2000s. All presumably had to build alot of new stuff - but would you say that they didnt deserve it? Should we limit it to counties with a certain per capita GDP and low debt ratio? Whats the dividing line between counties that should host and shouldnt?
