Something that has always made me wonder, with guys like Adam Schefter, Ken Rosenthal, Adrian Woj (not even going to attempt that) why do teams or workers for teams leak information to these guys to tweet out? Are they being paid for their leaks ?

I’ve always wondered why information like that gets out early instead of, let’s say the Yankees make a trade for player x, only the gms know about it at first and maybe some scouts. And once the trade is finalized it gets a press release or a tweet, instead of having the baseball reports tweet out “close to a deal for xyz”

I know it’s a stupid question but I never understood why info would be leaked. Makes guys like the ones I named earlier absolutely loaded rich for Essentially being a middle man.

Often the leak is from someone close to the player, like an agent. And baseball news leaks as well, has for years, don't kid yourself.

Oh I know I was giving a hypothetical scenario but I always wondered why it wasn’t just kept in house until the team decides to announce it. Would make these guys like woj, Rosenthal, schefter worthless if they just held it close to the vest

As Russ said, a lot of times it's people on the player's side that the house has no control over.

I'm sure sometimes, though, programs (in all sports) leak information intentionally, too, for a variety of reasons.

I live in southwest Florida for much of the year. All the broadcast TV stations (Fort Myers, Naples) do not have a sports segment Monday through Thursday, at any point during the day, on their local newscasts. They do on Friday through Sunday.

Often, the player wants the info out.

My only personal experience with this was when Ken Griffey Jr.. told me he was signing with the Reds and asked me to keep it quiet. One day later it was announced on SportsCenter and they sourced someone close to Griffey.

Not that I was the only person close to Ken, but it freaked me out and so I called him about it to assure him that I didn't talk to ESPN.

At which point he laughed and said he knew exactly who leaked it because he asked him to.

More face time for the meteorologist. The REAL star of Florida TV News stations.

Besides the only sports day cover are pro, college and high school football right? Maybe the Rays' score.

So what I got out of this, when will you be able to send me a Griffey autograph??

LOL he autographed two baseballs for me.

Great guy. Our friendship began when the morning show for my radio station was raising funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

He called in and pledged $15,000 said he was dropping his daughter off for school and then he would come by the station and write a check.

Nobody really believed it was him on the phone but about 9:45 he showed up in the lobby of the radio station.

I remember it like it was last week. It was a Tuesday in February 1999. The day we got our box of FanMail CDs, that was the TLC album that had No Scrubs on it. Griffey hit me up for a free CD to give to his wife Mel.

Good times

Or, you know, people like to talk and be important. You don't need to know a thing about sports to know that.
