Hoping for another great series in a great postseason, but my gut tells me that Tampa wins in 5. I think Tampa is the best team in the NHL right now, from crease to crease, i.e., excluding goalies, as their players are so big, strong, and fast. Bishop is a bit uneven in goal, but if he plays reasonably well, I see them winning in 5. If they had Lundqvist, they'd be almost unbeatable. I hope I'm wrong and Chicago wins in 7.

I'm going Chicago in 6.

PS - The opening goal was one of the best goals I've seen in a while.

Big fan of Johnny O. But like the way that Tampa plays. Hope for 7 games to hear Doc call the games. No actual rooting interest but want a long series
Great game 1 so far

Completely agree. Doc is the best announcer in all of sports, IMO. Looks like I'll be wrong, with the Blackhawks winning game one and I don't mind at all as I want to see 7. Tampa should've scored 2-3 goals, as they were dominating, but Crawford came up big and Bishop didn't do well on the equalizer - he's tall and needs to be able to see around that screen.

Want Tampa but think Chicago and that has nothing to do with last night's results. This series reminds me of last year's World Series. The experienced favorite with multiple titles over the last several years against an upstart no one expected to be there.

BTW to the OP it is Stanley Cup Final. Not Finals.
Dan Patrick has some funny stories about being corrected on air working for NBC

Not according to Wikipedia.

More importantly, Tampa has now won two straight. Game 2 was simply scintillating, while tonight's game was merely very good, lol. Chicago kind of blew it tonight, especially after going up 2-1 early in the 3rd. Not so great defense/goaltending on the 2nd Tampa goal and then really bad defense on the game winner. Want to see Chicago tie it up next game.

Come on #s you are hanging your hat on Wikipedia? ? Lol. The NHL calls it the NHL Final. You can't be anymore official than that.
Hoping for a game 7. Then start rooting for one team in the 3rd

Actually, wikipedia does call it FINAL...not that wikipedia is right, anyway.

The Stanley Cup Final (also known as the Stanley Cup Finals among various media,[nb 1]French: Finale de la Coupe Stanley) is the championship series to determine the winner of the Stanley Cup, emblematic of the professional club championship of ice hockey.

But it is officially FINAL, per the NHL. It's the FINAL series, not the FINALS series. Hence, the Eastern Conference Final, the Western Conference Final, but the Conference FINALS.

Really need Chicago to win game 4 or else my original prediction of Tampa in 5 might just come true. I hope not.

With regard to the other silliness, as per the Wiki article endnote, the NHL started using the singular form in 2006, but much of the media still calls it the Finals, because, frankly, that's grammatically more correct - the NBA uses Finals and even the NHL calls it the playoffs not the playoff. If I had to guess, use of the singular form is a nod to the French-Canadian folks, who used to call it the Finale de la Coupe Stanley. The English language is constantly evolving and I'd wager everyone will be calling it the Finals, even the NHL, within 15-20 years. It simply sounds better. Not that it really matters much.

"The NHL officially began referring to the championship series as a singular "Final" circa 2006. However, various North American media still continue to refer to it as plural "Finals", similar to the NBA Finals."

Doc Emrick is the worst hockey announcer of all time. Hockey is too fast paced for his play-by-play style. He calls a hockey game like he's doing a radio baseball broadcast.

"15 years ago a little known hockey prospect was working his way up through the minors. Riding bus trips through the ECHL is a tough way to make a living and he paid his dues with interest. He would work in the offseason as a security guard in his hometown of East Crapton to make ends meet. PASS TO RILEY, HE SCOOOOORRES!!!!. The hometown team takes a 1-0 lead thanks to a beautiful pass by Johnson and a great shot by Riley. Anyway, after 5 years riding buses in the ECHL, Johnny Slapshot got a chance to make the NHL team. Once again, he fails to make the club and he is sent down to the AHL affiliate to toil another two years before getting another chance to make an NHL roster. JACKSON ON A BREAKAWAY, HE SCOOORES!!!! THE GAME IS TIED AT 1! Finally, Johnny Slapshot makes the big club and is the team's leading scorer. Why do I mention this today? Because his younger brother is BIG HIT ON STEPNOWSKI, MALAKOV SKATING 2 on 1 WITH O'MALLEY SAVE BY RICHARD. Anyway, his younger brother is..."

The only people that don't like Doc are Rangers fans. He wins multiple awards every single year. Also, your example is way off base. He usually does his history lessons during breaks in the play and is known for how many different verbs he uses to describe actions so that it isn't monotonous. Either way, I'd rather hear those background facts about players than some guy just telling me exactly what I'm seeing all game long. I can see what is happening myself, I don't need every single action recited to me anyway.

Doc's issue isn't using history or too many stories about players (that would be Pierre who feels the need to jump in just to tell you which Squirt league he played in and with who). It's that he purposely uses every synonym imaginable to describe action...I don't need to hear about players "sashaying" when describing hockey. But he's the best in the business for his ability to add excitement to the broadcast, and I'm a Rangers fan.

Holy crap I always thought you were an Idiot. Turns out you are just Fuc×in retarded.
Doc is the best announcer in all of sports. Every play by play man wants to be half as good as he is.

Tonight's game was just stunning. Chicago barely survived. Tampa is playing with absolutely no fear and incredible confidence. Just jaw dropping that they are playing that system so well.

I agree with this. Its not so much that he uses a ton of different words to describe action, its that he uses odd ones. I've recently started to find it annoying. In addition to "sashaying," he loves to use:

A slap shot is "The driiiive" instead of the shot. When did a shot become a drive anyway? A lot of announcers use that one.
Then along the boards, the puck gets "knifed" ahead
When a flip pass is used to clear the zone the puck is "spirited ahead"

All of that said, he calls a great game, and is most definitely not slow. Anyone who thinks he is slow should try listening to random radio broadcasts from around the league. Doc is a pleasure, simply because he calls the game accurately. There is a reason why he calls the nationally televised games and as many playoff games as they can get him to.

Last two minutes were awesome. Tampa is a really fun team to watch, and that is saying something considering they are playing the Blackhawks who also play an attractive style.

Thank you! I've known for two years that you were a complete buffoon, so you calling me an idiot is a complement. I have muted the sound for the past three years whenever he is doing a game I'm watching. You might be impressed by him, but you aren't nearly as impressed with him as he is with himself. I like hockey too much to suffer though the abuse of listening to that windbag.

Completely missed game 4 - was in NYC at the Belle and Sebastian show at Radio City, with local NJ indie darlings, Real Estate, opening up - was a really good show. Glad to see Chicago won.

And I'm floored there are hockey fans that don't like Doc. The guy paints such a great picture of the action, is incredibly knoweldgable about the sport and modulates his energy/volume perfectly to match the energy in the game. Best announcer in sports.

I completely missed last night's game. Went to the Twisted Sister show in Sayreville. First time at that venue and perhaps the last. Place was way over sold and the acoustics really aren't that good there, imo. If there were a fire it would have been like the Station only 10X worse. Too many ppl !

I see Tampa lost. Oh well, maybe they can win two straight.

"And I'm floored there are hockey fans that don't like Doc. The guy paints such a great picture of the action"

And that's why I don't like him on tv. On radio, he would be perfect. As a fan of the game for decades, I don't need someone "painting a picture of the action" which I can see. On radio, that's perfect.

It's not just a knock against Doc, I also don't like Howie Rose on television who does a radio play by play call either. To me, radio needs that play by play style. Tv does not.

I'm a diehard Rangers fan (was devastated losing to Tampa) and even I think Doc is the best around (I despise the Devils).

Helluva game, so far, with end-to-end action and tons of scoring chances. OT anyone?
Great goal.
Guys like sherrane try to derail a good hockey thread and is a complete idiot but he/she/heshe can't overcome their stupidity.
What a great final.

Outstanding game, outstanding series and outstanding playoffs. Best ad ever for hockey. Good thing I didn't bet on Tampa, lol. Happy to see an original 6 team win, but would've been fine to see Tampa win, as I like the way they play the game and they're young and will be back. Love the traditions in hockey: the handshake line, the presentation of the Cup to the captain, and the sheer joy of every player when he hoists that Cup. Priceless stuff.

Congrats to the Blackhawks. Would have liked to have seen a game 7, but the better team closed it out.
Game 7 would have been the only thing to improve this series.
This is the first time in Stanley Cup history that the first 5 games were 1 goal games
