OT- Strange Slate Article About Joey Bosa--All that is Wrong with College Sports

I think it's a stupid article, no sympathy for having to make sacrifices for a chance at professional success. I do think the NCAA is ridiculously corrupt and the money the university's athletics generates needs to be redirected back into the university in much better ways than luxury accommodations

Strange indeed - an article about an article ... and hard to figure where he really wants to go with this - does he want to critique Bosa? The NFL? Ohio State? the college system? or the Sports Illustrated article's take on all of this.

This was 531 words of gobbledygook

“His sparse apartment was furnished with little more than an Xbox, DVDs, football gear, clothing, cooking utensils and the minimum amount of furniture,” - Isn't that a pretty good description of a typical off-campus apartment for a student unless you're Reggie Bush at USC??

Unsaid here is the fact that great defensive linemen tend to have an unhealthy amount of aggression inside of them (I was once told by a D1 coach that you want someone with a with a criminal mentality there) and perhaps it's better off to minimize potential distractions and arguments from someone on his level at this stage of his career.

Maybe Bosa being isolated wasn't just acting out of interest for his career....he was acting for his own sanity.

Exactly. At what point did it become necessary for an 18-21 year college student to have all of these luxuries? I lived in a dump on Bartlett with a bunch of guys and yet somehow all of us turned out successful. It teaches you humility and to appreciate what you have.

The guy is playing it smart, minimizing exposure to things that can potentially jeopardize his standing in the draft, whether it be internal or external influences. What's the problem? Clearly he's planning for and heading toward the best outcome. Avoid the sideshow and focus on the big top. He's readying for the Greatest Show on Earth, afterall, with apologies to the Ringling Bros.

Remember the joy of finding old beaten up couches on the side of the road that still had most of the stuffing inside of them? They were scooped up fast because they still had lots of life still left in them.

I remember my first non-IKEA furniture purchase. Part of me thought that it was wasteful spending so much.

"... they still had lots of life still left in them."

Hah! "Life" as in assorted bacteria, lice, bed bugs, etc. And yet we survived, dare I say flourished? "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." Does this resonate with any millenials?

Slate is the worst media outlet on the planet. Their writing is great for collecting bird crap

Did I see any thing in there about A FREE education. Did I see anything in there that the COACHES and OSU FACILITIES helped prepare him for the opportunity to make Millions. Stupid article
