OT: Tez is back at St John’s

I always root for Tez, and am surprised about Curbelo leaving the Illini. He seems like a good dude so I have no problem with him, just surprised that he left. St. John's has a decent offensive weapon in Curbelo and a very good defender in Tez.

Not sure if they will be good or bad. But this combination does make me want to watch them.

I didn't know he was leaving - I assumed he would be there. Was this a 6th year decision for him?

Good for him. Seems like he’s been playing for 10 years. Did not do nearly as well as I thought he would in that system.

I don’t think he starts for them. They played some games this summer and Curbelo looked terrible. I think they may miss the tournament again tbh.

I don't think Illinois was all that broken up about Curbelo leaving.
Wouldn't surprise me at all if Underwood showed him the door. Kid is crazy talented but also crazy erratic, and also can't hit the broad side of a barn from 3-pt range.

Will be interesting. Sometimes players mature, especially as seniors

Taz should be a good back-up , but did start 28 games for the Red Storm last year so
I could be wrong about that.

Mathis huge dunk vs Maryland

Curbelo gonna be around forever . He’s got 3 years left and another transfer in him

I believe one of them will not start. St. John's has the other guard whose name escapes me at the moment who is very active all over the court and who chose St. John's over Seton Hall a few years ago. He is very highly rated and is all over the court. I think his name is Posh Alexander.

One name....................Damon Santiago
Made an incredible jump his senior year, from 8 points a game to 17 and shot 44% from 3. Also was the year we joined the Big East so the schedule had gotten tougher.

Interesting article. RU sports probably has many similar students in its history.

here is a better story . About the Pitt buzzer beater and mentions the career. success Damon had . I don’t think that Pitt game was on tv

Mathis scored 16 points including 3-4 on three pointers last night.

More surprising to me was that Mamadou Doucoure started for La Salle. He only played 6 minutes though and did not score.

Without looking can anyone guess the year he started at center at Rutgers as a freshman

THANKS for this link. I often talk about this improbable win but I couldn’t recall all the details… and yes I listened to it on the radio. Over the years I had 2 bosses that we‘re arrogant hoops fans. In this case he was a Pitt guy. Work the next day was so sweet.

PS - the other boss years later was a Villanova fan and he was texting shade from the RAC …then Jonathan Mitchell had the game winning 4 point play. Work was fun the next day after this one too

Working backwards:

21/22 - Cliff / Dean
20/21.- Myles / Cliff / Doucore
19/20 - Myles / Shaq / Doucore
18/19 - Doorson / Myles / Doucore*

I’m going with 2017/2018 when Myles redshirted. Now I’m going to look it up

edit: after looking up it looks like he lost his starting job at end of 17/18 to Doorson. Then got hurt after 6 games in 18/19 season.
