Everybody mentioned the famous classics, so here's a few of my favorites (in no particular order):

"Nude House of Wacky People" (Nov. 15 1989) - Mike Myers shines as a Japanese TV exec presenting US-inspired sitcoms to a US audience. Only shown once, not on the SNL 1989 DVD, considered too racist. Look it up online. It's genious. "so funny; I have to laugh again."

"Sinatra Group" (Jan. 19 1991) - Even if you don't get the "McLaughlin Group" reference (another great skit starring Dana Carvey), you can't deny the talent of the players. Sting as Billy Idol, Jan Hooks as Sinead O'Conner, Chris Rock as Luther Campbell, Jackson & Myers as Steve & Edie, and of course Phil Hartman as the Chairman. Best line ever: "I got chunks of guys like you in my stool."

"Winston University" (March 17 1984) - Strangley prophetic in this age of for-profit universities. A colleges admissions counselor (Billy Crustal) shows some kids why higher education is so worth it. This skit reminds us of some of the forgotten stars of the show in the 80s (e.g., Robin Duke). Look for a young Julia Louis-Dreyfus among the students. "we will find you, and we will kill you..."

"Grumpy Old Man" (April 14 1990) - He's funnier than Carvey's Church Lady, and just like every old uncle you ever had. Looking back, some of my favoprite characters were from the Weekend Update spots. "Life was a carnival! We entertained ourselves! We didn't need moooovin' pitchurrrres. In my day, there was only one show in town -- it was called 'Stare at the sun!'"

"Stand Up and Win" (April 18 1992) - Before "Celebrity Jeopardy" we had this game show skit hosted by the real Jerry Seinfeld. The questions and answers were taken from Seinfeld stand up material, and the guests (Sandler, Schneider, Carvey) were all Seinfeld impersonators. A clever use of a host for a skit. "who are the ad wizards who came up with that one?"

"Matt Foley" (May 8 1993) - "Well dad, why don't you just shut your big YAPPER?!" What more can I say?

"Adam Sandler's Halloween Costumes" (Oct. 26 1991) - Another Weekend Update spot. Only Adam Sandler could pull off an idea so stupidly simple and make it hilarious. Sure, Cajun Man and Opera Man were great, but this bests them both in its absurdity. "now gimmee some candy."

Oooo...nuuu... so sorry. The answer we were looking for was Meep-Zorp.... Meep-Zorp is the favorite holiday. We would also have accepted "fiberglass" to things that eggs go with.

The Coneheads play Family Feud:

You're Gonna Make Me Sing (Kristen Wiig)
Swayze/Farley Chippendales
There are so many...

Thank you so much. I had tears flowing as I watched. Yes, fiberglass goes with eggs, not Styrofoam. What the hell was I thinking.

You know, the early movies with SNL characters or the actors themselves were really good (i.e. Blues Brothers, Fletch, Animal House, Caddyshack, etc.) and later they really were terrible.

However, one of the "terrible" ones I thought was pretty good for what it was. And that was the Conehead movie. I thought they blended a humorous tale of the suburban dream with all the references from the SNL Conehead skits. If you never saw it, the Coneheads eventually move to Paramus where Jason Alexander (with a hilariously bad toupe) was his neighbor. Michael Richards makes a cameo at the start of the movie as a late night hotel clerk. Many SNL alum from the early days and SNL from the 1980s-1990s in it too.

My favorite part was Mr. Conehead's fireworks show.

7. Bill Murray's Swill ad
8. Jerry Ordini (Bill Murray) lounge singer "Starr Warrss, nothing but Starrr Warrs"
9. Any Wayne's World skit
10. Schweddy Balls
11. Fey/Pohler ":This Is Your Second Wife" skit from last week.

1)dick in a box. I was showing this to everyone and laughing my balls off everytime I watched it.
2)Farley Chippendales'
3)Moynihan's "kitty cat" space ship skit. Hilarious. They tried a 2nd version and it bombed but the first was awesome.
4)Eddie Murphy's James Brown hot tub skit.
5)Deep thoughts.

I'd like to say van by the river, but it got so played out(not by just snl but in public speak) that it lost lustre. And skit's like wayne's world too. Some obvious classics that got so big that the hilarity of the original viewing got lost somewhere.

Way too many to list just 5 and most have been covered--but here's a few more

Tom Hanks and Lovitz as those creepy young guys trying to pick up old women---"Hello......and goooodbye. I couldn't feel any worse!"

Tom Hanks as Mr Short Term Memory

Dana Carvey as Massive Head Wound Harry

The Tonight Show where Johnny Carson (Dana Carvey) was trying to update it to be more hip like Arsenio

The Chris Farley Show with Paul McCartney as his guest

Don't remember the name but it was Tom Hanks as a father of family and the spent the whole skit smelling rancid things

Billy Crystal and Christopher Guest--"I hate it when that happens"

Tonto, Tarzan and Frankenstein sing Christmas tunes

Haha this is one of my all time faves too.

"I mean, whats the deal with Oprah? First she fat, then she's thin, then she's fat, then she's thin. I mean, come on! Pick a weight and go with it!"

James Brown Hot Tub Party
*&#@ in a box
Chevy Chase - Richard Pryor job interview
John Belushi as the Samurai Warrior

great thread btw. Just remembered another couple--Andy Kaufman "singing " the Mighty Mouse theme.

And the short film "Dog Baseball"

Phil Hartman as Bill Clinton jogging into a McDonalds. Some great lines: to secret service "there's going to be a whole lot of things we don't tell Mrs. Clinton about" and , as he steals food from customers "War Lords!"

Happy funball. (the things that jog our memories)

Just watched the Malkovich christmas snl from 2008, which had a bunch of funny skits. The skit with Wiig where she is this ditzy hot girl that does all these unhot things was real funny. As was Malkovich on the Italian talk show. Maybe not all time funnies, but good stuff nonetheless.

before an econ final I watch the Best of Eddie Murphy to unwind back in my jr. year. Needless to say halfway through the exam Buckwheat sings got stuck in my head and the proctor had to remove me from the lecture hall as I was laughing uncontrollably...

Might not be remembered by too many people but I recall one where O.J. Simpson was a football player opposite Larraine Newman who was a female locker room reporter. There were some good lines in that one including some that I was thinking well how did they get those past the censors?

il returno de Hercules with Bill Murray asHercules ("I could lift a smaller rock")

Dick in a Box.

On a Boat.

Colon Blow

William Shatner at the Star Trek convention. I Grok Spock!

Dan Akroyd and Garret Morris Women's Problems all time classic from 1979 era
