Wonder if Politi will cover this story on his alma mater?

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina cornerbacks M.J. Stewart and Mike Hughes face misdemeanor assault charges tied to an altercation near the Chapel Hill campus earlier this month.

Stewart, a sophomore who has started every game for the Tar Heels this season, turned himself in and was released on an unsecured bond Thursday night, according to an arrest report. The arrest warrant charges him with assault and battery for punching the victim ''several times in the face.''

Hughes, a freshman reserve, was arrested before being released on bond, according to police arrest reports. The arrest warrant charges him with assault inflicting serious injury for punching the victim and breaking his nose, knocking him unconscious and causing a concussion as well as lingering health issues.

It should be as well as other D-1 college teams. Politi is a UNC graduate but he doesn't say boo about the scandal going on now for several years for many UNC athletes having taken courses in college where they got credit and outstanding grades for not even attending classes. That is a complete joke that took place for over a decade and many athletes on their teams took these classes when they won the NCAA basketball championship as well as many bowl games. That is a complete disgrace and a slap in the face at all educational institutions that do things the right way.

The UNC football program is out of control. The head coach Needs to be fired. Wonder if their local media is calling for his head ?

I'm sorry, _why_ should Steve Politi's beat be all of FBS/FCS college football? Since we're implying acknowledgement of the fact that it's currently not, I mean.

The local media is exclusively pro-UNC, controlled by alumni of the school's journalism school, media outlet owners, and advertisers. TV and print sports do little else than celebrate their Heels. A few investigative journalists actually do cover the issues; Dan Kane is clearly "the" professional journalist covering the UNC mess for the N&O.

FB HC Fedora is winning. That's what matters in the UNC culture. DC Chizik was brought in this year to address the ailing D. He's doing the job, so far. Chizik, you may recall, departed Auburn in a cloud of scandal. Perfect fit for UNC. That UNC would bring in this gentleman amidst its turmoil with the NCAA is quite telling of UNC's attitude and character.

Right now, local media is on lovefest mode, celebrating UNC FB, while building much enthusiasm for the preseason #1 ranked men's BB team.

Word is that the NCAA's COI may issue its UNC penalties earlier than initially expected. No local media coverage of this, of course.

Maybe ScarletNation poster "NYCTarheel23" can shed some light on this? I hear he knows Politi. Lol.

UNC appears to be the most out-of-control college sports program in America. Louisville is up there as well.

I thought I read this post yesterday. The I realized that was a post about some USF players. You don't see many of these kinds of threads in Ohio, Michigan, Michigan St forums . This form dwells on other teams problems like few others - no doubt a reason for RUs karma imo

Didn't take long for the SL apologists to show up. As long as the SL NJ.COM bashes our coach and our AD some here would defend our NJ media to the death. When SL stories detailing our issues are picked up by media outlets elsewhere some posters celebrate the stories going national because it fits their agenda. When a poster questions whether another school's, clearly a dirty program at that, issues will be reported too many of our fans are quick to defend Newhouse, etc.

Apologist's??? OP comes up with a stupid thread. Titles it about UNC players but immediately calls for the SL to cover this when there is zero reason they should.
If the OP wants to call out the SL AGAIN. There are plenty other threads on here to add this. Instead he hides behind a misleading title to start just another I hate SL thread. Ship is getting old on here. People need to grow up.

Our fans hate how our press handles arrests, et al, (with GOOD reason) hence the need for them to feel we need to read, here, about every freakin' arrest in college football now. Throw into it the fact that one of our biggest adversaries in the press, Steve "I Look Like Penis" Politi, is a UNC alumnus and, well, every time a kid fails a class at UNC you'll likely see it here these days.

Don't see anyone defending the website.

Just makes ZERO sense for a NJ newspaper to chime in about an arrest at UNC.

Really can't fathom why people don't understand this...

I personally disagree with the spin that Politi and Duggan tend to put on most of the RU article, but this argument is completely asinine. UNC news should not be more than a small bit in an NJ newspaper if anything at all unless mentioned in a story related about RU.

While on the topic....

The writers DO NOT come up with the headlines and usually DO NOT even come up with the stories. Sure they may pitch some ideas, but they are being told what to write and how to write it. If they didn't do what they were told, they would be fired. Print media is a dying industry and a dog eat dog environment. These papers need to generate articles that will SELL SELL SELL. What sells today? Negative shocking appalling stories.

People really need to get over it and realize that the only thing that is going to stop the negative spin in RU articles is when the star leader goes under.

Actually, it would make sense if the agenda of our press was to be fair. I could easily see a tie-in if a reporter wanted a story about Rutgers, our situation, and how it may compare to other P5 schools of similar stature. Maybe it could change the view of us being this out of control, rogue program where in fact, we are not any different and even much better then most other P5 university's.

Oh so only 4 more until they match Flood in arrests.

Doubt they will match Flood in losses though. They already blew out Illinois, we have yet to get a B1G win and it's mid October.

I guess the Floodies are the guys that get a speeding ticket and tell the judge about OJ.

What's most interesting here is the contrast between how NJ's flagship U is "covered" by the state press vs. how NC's flagship U is covered by its state press. UNC has tremendous influence and controls much of what is covered and how it is covered. RU, not so much, and I'm sure that's not a bad thing, at all.

As far as NJ.com/TSL possible coverage of UNC's troubles/corruption, it would be to highlight or make more visible the scale of this greatest scandal in the history of the NCAA, perhaps addressing larger issues in collegiate revenue sports and the conflicts facing schools, and how some address them expediently and effectively, and some do not. In short, if we all compete in the same "league," we should all be held to the same standards/rules, and be held accountable.

Since he is eager to write every article about PSU and post it on rutgers football section of Nj.com

Penn State is a conference opponent, has TONS of fans in NJ and for the most part hated by all Rutgers fans. Again, it's all about shock value, evoking people emotions and selling papers!
