The Chronicle of Higher Education ran an article (and video interview) earlier this week featuring Michael Adams, a member of the NCAA's Committee on Infractions. The focus was on the need for the NCAA to punish cheaters to uphold the public trust in the NCAA and to deter cheating. This forecasts what's in store for UNC, whose punishment will be significant, so it seems.

The article/video titled "NCAA Must Ferret Out Academic Fraud to Maintain Trust With Public" can be found here:

And. . . in the comments section of this article, note the post pertaining to Rutgers FB:

"My favorite recent story is that of Kyle Flood, hapless Rutgers football coach. Sooo many good details. Meeting in disguise with a Dance Appreciation adjunct professor outside the Princeton Library. The fact that his best defensive back couldn't pass DANCE APPRECIATION to begin with. Emailing the professor from his personal account and then pointing out why in the text of the email. Being told by the professor that his DB failed because he didn't attend the required performances in New York City. And then, after the professor finally acquiesced and allowed Barnwell to write an extra credit paper, that Coach Kyle Flood (former high school teacher) gave the player feedback on it and helped correct the grammar.

There is something so endearing about that last detail that makes me love Kyle Flood despite his buffoonery. Can you imagine Urban Meyer playing writing tutor?

Anyway, a week or so after this all came to light Barnwell was arrested and kicked off the team for helping beat someone up over a parking space. Then Flood was fired.

Can't make this stuff up."

Still boggles my mind that recruits chose to go there this year.

Yeah, but the difference is, Rutgers got RIGHT ON IT, DID NOT HIDE IT, and PUNISHED FLOOD.

The NCAA is going to hammer the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for Chapel Hill's misdeeds. That will show them.

Appalachian State better be on the look at as well. The NCAA means business.

(The NCAA will never touch a money making program)

I agree completely. Or, they will revisit the PSU strategy and hit them hard and wait a year and roll back all the consequences. That way they can say they did their job and UNC gets off the hook.

Based on their history of not only punishing violations, but showing absolutely no partiality, I have full faith that all will end well. [roll]
