My youngest son works in NYC and uses his car maybe once a week, and this doesn't help the car, and after what I'm about to tell you, I will drive it at least 1 or 2 times a week until he sells it, just to keep it safe. He wanted to buy a new car and we told him why,you never use it, what a waste. If any of you have Hyundai products 2001- 2010 go and check for any recalls. My son has a 2003 Sante Fe with 90,000 miles and got a complete brake job and our mechanic told me before the work was done to come over and see the sub frame. It was so rusted that any pot hole could just break the frame, causing wheels to fall off and completely ruin the front end. Told me to check and see if there's a recall. It had 2 recalls in the past for other rear sub frame issues,so this time it wasn't covered but after we towed it to the Hyundai dealer, he took pictures of the damage, Hyundai said they'd make good.Sure, they don't want the government to issue another national recall,so they will fix it on the QT. Service department called me yesterday and said after trying to replace the front subframe, the brake and power steering lines were rusted to the frame and broke, also the transmission mounts had to be replaced and the entire exhaust system broke trying to remove the sub frame, lol. Turns out, they will cover everything!!! Point is, when helping to find a used car for your kids, make sure there isn't any recalls not resolved or at least have your mechanic check the sub frames. Your kid could be driving a time bomb! I was told the work being done would have cost at least $ 3,000, for a car worth maybe $3,500 at trade in.

I have a 2002 Santa Fe. There have been two recalls, one as you mentioned was for rusting of the front sub frame. I took mine in and they coated it with a waxy material, mine wasn't rusty. The second one was for the front coil spring brackets. I took mine in for that and they attached a bracket to the upper part of the springs.
I love this car. I bought it brand new with 7 miles on it. I was kicking around the idea of buying a new car last year but since my Santa Fe is in good shape I put it off.

Yup, your right about the springs, did you also get the shields to go in front of the springs? That's to prevent if and when the springs break, they don't shoot towards the tires causing a blow out. Got that replaced also yesterday. The truck is a nice drive, except it sits too long without being garaged keep lending itself to rust I guess. My son will have a complete overhaul now, so maybe he keeps it for a while longer, until he goes brand new.

My youngest drives a hand-me-down: my 2007 Saab 9-3. It has 96k miles on the clock and hasn't needed a repair of any kind in 3 years.

Also she keeps it in mint condition. Just in case old Saabs should ever be worth anything, someday.

My 3 year lease is up Feb 2017 and I'll be getting a new car. No more repair costs. Only a reasonable monthly payment that I can handle. It works of me.

Nope never!!!!!

Greatest invention since the wheel which by the way was invented with the Accord specifically in mind.

i just dont get it.. they're cheap to lease probably buy as well, but they dont have great style... they dont drive well, they dont have advanced tech, i dont see any reason to own one.

I LOVE their style. They drive exceptionally well for a midsize sedan, have enough tech, and are reliable. Honda Accord reigns supreme.

Just trying to be silly.

I will say I had an Accord for 13 years (170K miles). Living at the beach destroys cars. It went thru 2 hurricanes , numerous noreasters, flooding, got rear ended, and generally beat up. Ran right up to the end. The only reason I got rid of it was the salt had corroded the undercarriage so bad that my mechanic was concerned the engine would fall out.

Yea i hear you.. but this reliability story on honda has reached mythical levels. And while i dont doubt they have above avg reliability, how much of that is due to not pushing the envelope? their mechanicals are unimpressive, and probably why they're reliable.

It is like a shackle that they put on my springs. First I got a notice about the spring issue and at the time Hyundai didn't have a repair for it yet. Then a month or two later I got another notice that they had a solution and to bring my car to the dealer.
You are lucky you practically have a rebuilt car now for free. An exhaust system replacement alone is about $1,800.00.

That's what I'm hearing, yea they said anything associated with replacing the frame that broke, they have to make good on. Can't believe an exhaust replacement cost that much, unreal.
