Man, really nasty here in Cranford from about 4:45-5p. Big gusts of wind and heavy heavy rain. Trees came down. Springfield ave shut down. Had a big limb fall in my back yard, neighbors had a tree crack clean in half. As bad as I've seen in a while.

Coming home, I take 206 by the Bridgewater Mall from 22 up to 287 - today, it was at a dead stop before even getting onto 206 - I cut through the mall and got a glimpse of a car up on the grass with the top half of a power pole lying across the car. When I got back on 206 and looked in the rear view mirror, there were a whole bunch of emergency vehicles blocking all 3 lanes. Must have been pretty bad - so far haven't been able to find any news about it.

The telephone poll in front of our house was struck by lightning and it was smoldering black smoke for the past 5 hours. The FD came and said they were just going to let it go out by itself, but about a 1/2 hour ago they came back and put it out. My wife was starting to worry, and it smelled pretty bad all night.
