First I know that we have some easy games on our schedule. Truthfully we needed that type of schedule.

Second we will not magically start beating the B1G elite.

But, what are some of our best starts for a season. I can pick one 28-0 , 1976.

4-0 starts:
1990-91 (lost next 3)
1980-81 (lost next 6)
1979-80 (lost next 4)

5-0 starts:
2000-01 (lost next 2)
1982-83 (lost next 1, then won 2 more)

6-0 start:
1966-67

30-0 start:
1975-76 (lost next/last 2)

(That's all sports-reference has that are better than 3-0 dating back to 1949-50)

Best RU basketball starts since Bannon…

1998-1999: Started 7-1, including 2-0 in conference when the Big East season opened in December. They beat Providence at home, Georgetown on the road, and Wichita State in Hawaii. Only loss was to Auburn. That team lost its final four regular season games, stumbling off the NCAA Tournament bubble. Lost to Clemson in the second round of the NIT.

1999-2000: Started 6-1, featuring neutral site wins over Nebraska and Mississippi State. Also beat St. Joe’s in Philadelphia. The only loss was to Murray State on a neutral court in Missouri. This team lost its final five games, including an opening round NIT defeat by Kent State.

2000-2001:
Started 5-0, beating up against mostly soft competition. Quickly fell to 5-2 with losses to St. Joe’s and Florida. Team finished 11-16.

2003-2004:
Started 7-1 with a neutral site win over Northwestern in Texas and Penn State in Happy Valley; the lone loss was at #15 Wisconsin. That team went to the NIT final, only to lose to Tommy Amaker’s Michigan Wolverines.

2005-2006: Douby’s junior year, team started 6-1, including a neutral site win over Kent State, a home defeat of Temple, and a big win on the west coast at St. Mary’s. The last RU team to make it to the postseason eventually fell at St. Joe’s in the second round of the NIT.

These initial games usually mean very little but in our case, starting this way is so friggin refreshing after what we've seen in the last 4 years. And some of the wins in the Eddie Jordan years were barely wins. We had to eek out games against the supposedly inferior opponents and then lost a few to schools like St. Peter's.

These three wins so far have been impressive performances in all areas. And the DePaul game on the road was what we needed as our first road game. We need to keep the pace and intensity going and I'm hoping we get some bigger crowds at the RAC to support these guys.

It's a lot of fun to watch fellas and btw, it's air conditioned so you're not dying of heat.

Come back to the RAC. It's time

In 2001-02, we lost the first 2 games, then won 8 in a row. We started 7-1 in 03-04. 9-2/ 11-3 start in 05-06
