Tuition cap moves out of committee. Politicians get to tell constituent's they are doing something about college costs without spending any money.

The good news for Rutgers is Cryan is going to get distracted by his run for Union County Sheriff.

Star Ledger
Bill to freeze tuition for N.J. college students advances
"Cryan responded that any college should be able to budget out its future costs rather than forcing freshmen to shoulder them."
That is just how the legislature handles the State's finances right?

Funny how properly funding higher ed never faces them...we have the one Democrat-controlled state legislature that is actually opposed to spending money on higher ed.

Seriously WTF

I will agree that a tuition cap is neccessary when the damn state stops putting us futher in debt and caps taxes as well

Others, like Srru, would know better, but I think such caps are in place at some public and private institutions without disastrous results.

There have been States that offered additional State funding if Colleges curtailed tuition increases. That is not what's on the table here.

In other states where that happened, the schools were properly funded for centuries before.

Also I understand that Brownback is in danger right now because of underfunding Kansas and KSU. Imagine a NJ pol taking heat for that...

Maryland had a cap. I cant remember if it came as a result of sky high (like 25% over two years or less) jumps or if the jumps came after the cap was removed.

Either way, it ust means that RU will have more fees.

Maryland is probably better funded than RU (not saying much) but it's certainly interesting that in terms of money, they're probably the Northeastern school that we most closely emulate.

I doubt NJ pols would use that as a model, as no other state has "my fingerprints all over everything" model NJ pols favor.

I'm not familiar enough with Maryland's needs structure wise aside from hearing that their stadium is dumpy.
