Out of town news links 7/6

"A good number of offensive linemen are set to return this year, which should help the running backs as well as quarterback Chris Laviano .Laviano threw for 2,247 yards last season, scoring 16 touchdowns while also throwing 12 interceptions. Like the running-back duo, Laviano was also a sophomore last season and another off-season of preparation should help."

Looks like Laviano is the starter. [banana]

"All told, this season will more than likely go very poorly for Rutgers. That’s to be expected, and anything short of a complete player collapse will be deemed a success."

That's some bulletin board material from Chris Ash's home state.

To be fair, I don't think anyone posting here feels much different. I would be thrilled with 6-6 and I'm honestly terrified of the possibility of 1 or 2 wins.

We all know how far we have to go before we can be competitive with the elite B1G teams. But it's very clear that the fact the we actually have a fairly talented and motivated team is the conference's best kept secret. If we can find even a partial solution at quarterback and linebacker we will surprise a lot of people.

More Bulletin Board Material:
"If there’s a conference game to be stolen on the road, it’s this one. Rutgers will be breaking in a new coach, has roster questions aplenty and is probably your favorite, right now, to be picked last in the Big Ten East."
Well, considering IUs other conference road games are at OSU, Northwestern and Michigan it's safe to say the road game at RU is the best chance to steal one.

Don't disagree with that part, but it's fair to project Indiana and Maryland as last place finishers too.

I've gone back and forth from "we'll be fine" to "this will be a cluster ----." At the end of the day, we will have 18-22 year old athletes who are better trained, better conditioned, more disciplined, more focused, and more competitive who have received better coaching and playing with better schemes than the last couple of years. I think this will translate to some unexpected wins.

Unless I am reading something wrong, Indiana will be breaking in a new QB and the entire defensive secondary looks green.

Not to be a d!ck but you did read it wrong. IU returns their entire back 4. They do lose the entire front 4. They have 6 returning starters on D and 6 on O. Sudfeld at QB and Howard at RB are the big losses along with a 4 year starter at LT.

OSU, MSU, Ill, and UMd all lost double digit starters. Conversely PSU returns 9 starters on O and Michigan 8. Iowa returns 8 on D. Minnesota has 14 returning starters.

Looks like very little real research actually went into the Iowa article. Six current players arrested? Actually, there are zero current players arrested. The six arrested have been off the team for almost a year. Anyone could gather a bunch of headlines from the past year and offer an opinion that RU will have a bad year. It is certainly a plausible scenario. Hopefully, the changes Coach Ash is putting in place will generate a few surprises.

Thanks for clarifying. I could not make heads or tails out of the legends they used on that link in my post.
