Penn Live article Rutgers and MD

Very interesting article and proves why Rutgers has to start landing the top tier recruits in state.

From the article:
"Much more often at such places, miracle-worker coaches arrive and, once they string together some success, quickly evacuate for a better situation or simply cannot withstand the annual stress of maintaining an outpost lacking tradition.

Consider the brief spikes of high performance under Greg Schiano at Rutgers (2005-11) and Ralph Friedgen at Maryland (2001-06) and how those periods affected recruiting."

And yet the author holds up Wisconsin as a program to emulate - the same Wisconsin that recruits in the 30s and doesn't recruit NJ.

There are a lot of inconsistencies in that article. I'd encourage people to read it more critically.

While not perfect a better, fact based, and more thoughtful article than most anything else we'll read on recruiting for months.

Thru 2007-2013 our recruiting was competitive with Penn State. That's 8 years and I thought if we played them earlier under Schiano, we would have beaten them. Now, the recruiting isn't even close. I see ON 247 that Penn State will get them 2 more 4 stars for a total of 11 which brings them the 4th rating on 247 better than Alabama. I don't know what Franklin is selling either sex and drugs but it's working.

Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State and Michigan turned up their recruiting 2-3 notches. Wisconsin could win with 3 stars because Michigan State and Penn State wasn't recruiting that great either during that period. In addition, Michigan just had the worst coach in the country beside Wiess.

He's a knowledgeable college football writer. Many PSU fans don't like him because he went to OSU and they feel he is biased. But I read his articles with interest because he usually knows what he is talking about. You can always find him Friday night before an away game at the PSU team's hotel bar, or at Wiskers bar Friday night at Nittany Lion Inn of home games.

While not perfect, I like the fact the author is insinuating the rest of the conference will be kissing RU's and MD's butt down the road.

I think that was a good article, but is a little deceiving. They count the DMV as one recruiting area. They count North jersey with New York and South Jersey with Philadelphia.
We are located right in the middle of these two fertile recruiting areas. How many other schools have that much talent within a 60-70 mile radius?
