Just bought tickets for the Penn St game. Since it's a night game, need to stay somewhere on the way back. Suggestions?

Gonna be pretty tough at this point. I waited until a week after it was announced as a night game and ended up at the Best Western in Lock Haven for $175. It's about 40 miles from State Penn off of Route 80.

Doubt you'll get anything closer unless you pay for multiple nights and are willing to spend abut $500 a night. That seems to be the going rate in State College. Even then, everything in town might be booked by now.

Closest I can find so far is in Lewisburg (about 60 miles away).....

Two things:

You can probably get a room for $700-800 for two nights in State College.

You can definitely rent a house in State College for football weekends. Google it.

I do not know availability - nor do I know if this would interest you - but might be worth checking out if you like a "nature oriented" place - it is on the lake where PSU has some of their crew practice - not too far from campus - if it had an appeal for you - keep it on file for the future (could be a mid way stop for a trip to some other B1G game)

The Nature Inn - at Bald Eagle - part of the Pennsylvania State Park system

201 Warbler Way
Howard, PA 16841

Thanks for the suggestions - wife isn't "nature-oriented" - Holiday Inn is nature for her. lol

Will keep looking....

If you live anywhere near Marlton/Cherry Hill/Mt Laurel or are willing to drive there the morning of the game, I think S_Janowski still has seats on the bus he is putting together. Send him a private message if you're interested. way cheaper than a hotel and it lessens your time in crappy valley.

There is a similar thread on our board. Depending upon to what part of NJ you're headed, leaving via Route 322 and passing by Harrisburg is just as good as Interstate 80. If you go Route 322, there are some chain motels along the way. As of today there were rooms at the Lewistown (not Lewisburg) Quality Inn at $119 per night. It's 30 miles from State College. The Mifflintown Econo Lodge also has rooms at around $125 per night. It's 45 miles from State College. A two night stay may be required at each. I've never stayed at either and can't vouch for room quality. Both are just off Route 322. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

If you can find ANY room for Friday/Saturday night in State College...take it.

Yeah, it will cost a lot of $$$ but the weekend will be a blast...it really is a fun college town, especially on Football Weekends.

Staying way out in the sticks and just driving in the game almost erases the true meaning of college football game road trip...as its usually those schools/programs in small towns that are the most fun to spend a football weekend (i.e. State College, Clemson, Auburn, Oxford, etc...)

PS. By Friday afternoon of football weekends, the 80 plus year old Rathskellar is a great place to interact with your own traveling fans and some "mature" (i.e. not kids) alumni from PSU.

Here's an article about the historic Rathskellar's in State College:

Still looking - looks like that Quality Inn isn't available anymore....

Thanks all!

Currently booked at Holiday Inn in Lewisburg (not far off Rt 80) - an hour away, but it's on the way back (I'm in Northern NJ - Clifton). $105 for the night, 4.1/5 on Tripadvisor, breakfast included. At least have something, can cancel if I find something better.

During the week before a game quite often some hotel rooms open up in State College. Get on some wait lists. And call later in week before game. Also, sometimes rooms open up at Toftrees for Saturday night since the PSU team only stays there Friday night before games.

Had a sister that went to Bucknell (in lewisburg) beautiful little town and definitely not the worst drive in the world, bit over an hour if I remember what she said correctly

Route to Bucknell might have a lot of traffic immediately after the game. So you might want to tailgate for a while after the game, and its a night game. So that's the issue. Unless rain or freezing or something , I always stay to tailgate after a PSU game since you don't get anywhere anyway for a while unless you leave the game early (and what fun is that).

Check the availability for the Best Western in Lewisburg. The rooms are spotlessly clean, they have a huge gift shop & bakery & a buffet style restaurant. (Breakfasts are to die for & most of the kitchen staff are Amish). I stay there every chance I get.

I never stayed in the suite so I'm unable to recommend it but I suppose staying in one would depend on your needs. Good luck, I hope you find accommodations that you're happy with!

Same as you coming from cedar grove

Now booked at the Best Western in Lewisburg (thanks for recommendation h8ru!) - it's on the way home at least! No suite, would be too tired to enjoy that anyway.

Good advice except the the team no longer stays at Tofttrees. The now stay at the Penn Stater.

Wow, the team stayed at Toftrees for a lot of years. So maybe Penn Stater would have some Saturday night openings. Does the away team still stay at that run down Marriott? Maybe Saturday night rooms available there also.

Staying at one of the many State Parks in a tent is actually a good idea that time of year. I used to stay in State Park cabins for football games, but you gotta reserve them a year in advance. A tent is cheap, and they have hot showers.

The visiting teams still stays at the Ramada on Atherton.

Just registered for the Alumni event before the game. I noticed that not many have registered yet. The one I went to last year at the Ohio State game was very good.

I assume Rutgers away game Alumni event is similar to PSU ones which I always look to stop by when attending away PSU games. Usually some food, drinks, and free giveaways like shakers, magnets & stickers.

Staying near Lancaster on Friday night on way to game.

It's pronounced Rapey Valley honey.
