Penn State 68 Indiana 63

Whenever I've watched PSU my thought was they're well coached.

Need better players especially shooters but they defend well and they're tough.

Awful shooting night for IU tonite and they had looks-----believe they were under 40 % and you go on the road and shoot that poorly you're going to lose.

Indiana shot poorly and Penn State had a full house. We are lucky 4000 show up and need students to come back.

Penn State is primarily a football school but also excels in other sports like wrestling and hockey. Its been a long time since mens basketball had any traction. If Rutgers had any relevance in college basketball, they should be able to defeat Penn State on a regular basis.Unfortunately, there is nothing but losing right now.

I was just saying this to my wife last night after the Neb game. How did Neb develop a BB team and Rutgers lose theirs. Shame. Damn crime.

That's exactly the type of team that gives us trouble - well-coached, tough on defense.

PSU made the Big Dance about 5 years ago if memory serves with Ed DeChellis.

Uncle Bob.
Right , he turned a powerhouse into what it is today.
Mulcahy gambled hiring on the cheap that didn't work for the MBB program.
Before he arrived RU MBB wasn't on it's way to glory either..
Don't blame everything on Bob Mulcahy, just say he didn't help matters by putting all of RU's eggs in the FB basket

If the Men's basketball program would have been Mulcahy's priority, we'd be talking about how
RU is doing as an ACC program.
With limited funding, choices had to be made and going B1G needed a respected FB program more than a good MBB program.
Even with the TV eyes in the NY Metro area, RU MBB wouldn't be driving the bus to B1G country.
Mulcahy made a choice and invested in the FB program to be the bus driver starting on the road to a B1G invite. Sadly the basketball programs didn't get funded properly because it was financially impossible due to the lack of funding every RU AD from Bob to Julie received from RU , the State and RU's MBB boosters .

Bob, Tim and Julie all had that same problem and now Pat has to try to overcome what they couldn't.
Hobbs is getting a little more help from the State and RU , but still has miles to go before the MBB program gets there ( financially)

There was no magic here. Penn State just hit some big threes down the stretch and Indiana missed a couple of good looks.

Agree. As I have quoted and mentioned dozens of times here, " The team that makes it open shots usually wins".

All teams get open shots....you just have to knock them down. It's not magic.

This is the same team that lost to Duquesne and Radford earlier in the season. Evidently they have kept their roster healthy and there is player development and progress being made at TTFP. And they are beating the bushes for talent -- their 14-man roster includes 5 Pennsylvania athletes, only. Roster includes players from California and Lithuania and China. One from NJ, Brandon Taylor (Tabernacle, NJ).

They are 12-12 3-8. They are having a great year if you are Rutgers

I was thinking the same thing. I thought Chambers had gotten some nice recruits the past couple of years and needed to start showing results. An above .500 finish would seem to be a minimum threshold.

Think he signed a 2016 class ranked in the top 10

Penn State has the 2nd best recruiting class in the Big 10 this year. That's why they can be patient with their coach one more year. They have 3 Philly guys coming in..first time in forever they were abe to reel guys in from there.

PSU is still struggling to break into the top 10 in this conference yet some of our fans think we are two years away from a NCAA bid and are going from 0 to 8 wins in just one season

In 15+ years in the Big East we were rarely out of the 2nd division. We've just been lousy in 3 different conferences.

Indiana has not been that good away from home. They lost to UNLV, who has fired their coach, lost to a mediocre Wake Forest team and lost at Wisconsin.

Ed DeChellis guided PSU to a NIT title in '09 and the NCAA in '11 where they lost to Temple. Then DeChellis bounced.

PSU is recruiting better in basketball (No. 18 class in the nation, No. 3 in the B1G currently). With rare exception (Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State) their arena always looks empty and sounds quiet.

Their administration "sort of" cares about basketball.
