Per Eddie Jordan, we were "out hearted"

Hopefully it was a quiet bus ride back home. Silver lining is that they got a bad loss out of the way and hopefully they can use it as a learning experience.

I am not the most astute basketball fan, but it seemed to me like we went away from what was working the whole game. Sanders was handling the ball, making excellent passes. The ball movement and ability to create open shots was the best I can remember seeing, and I've been watching since Waters. We had much much more than perimeter passes followed by a contested shot.

As soon as SJU cut the lead to ten, it seemed like Sanders disappeared, and Daniels was typically handling the ball. Instead of slowing down the pace of play and trying to continue getting open looks, a bunch of guys just chucked up shots very quickly, without killing any time. We had such a large lead that we could have even overcome that, but for the fact that no one, least of all Sanders, could seem to make a free throw. If free throw shooting was even below average, as opposed to atrociously bad, we would have won, because they would've been out of it in the final minute.

While the play was the most exciting I have seen in as long as I remember, I was more angry after that loss than I have been in quite awhile as well.

HC's, especially HC's like Eddie, say that when they think they have a team with some talent. You don't say that about a team you know just doesn't have the horses. It'll break an overmatched team more often than not. Seems Eddie doenst feel that way about this group. Good sign (imo).

I can understand some of the poor play down the stretch -- a lot of new players, first game on the road, SJU starting to hit some shots, the refs aiding and abetting by non- calls on the RU offensive end. Unfortunately for long periods Daniels was used as the point guard. Logically it might make sense to put the game in the senior's hands, but in this game I saw little improvement in him since last year when he was a turnover waiting to happen.

We may have turned the corner here. Nice Eddie was not in the 2 huddles FS1 showed. Nice Eddie doesn't say we were outhearted.

i know SJU won...Mullin in the huddles after SJU got embarrassed in transition just says you got to get back. I can't imagine or fathom being that unemotional. Looks like eddie 1.0.

We have Eddie 2.0. Eddie 3.0 (hope we get there) is the head of a coaching staff that utilizes assistants during games. Has to happen to have success here. All great coaches don't do it alone in games.

Is this the last bad loss of the year?

I don't think that's fair frankly-----5-14 from the foul line-----hard to blame the coach for that.

At firs I was really pissed and mad at Eddie for going away from Sanders setting up the offense and letting Daniels run the offense which stopped moving and he just went one on one and started missing layups , but maybe Eddie thought Daniels could not be stopped . He was not for his first 21 points but was a disaster down the stretch. Eddie has to let Corey run this team. Melo Trimble ran Maryland as a freshman and Eddie has to letCorey do the same. The missed foul shots and the refs swallowing their whistles hurt but it didn't have to come to that point. Should have been a comfortable 8-14 point win . This loss hurts as much as a 3rd game of a season can hurt.

Trimble deferred to both Dez Wells and Robert Pack for the first 6 to 8 Maryland games . Then it clicked, he realized he was the best player on the floor and he was great. Give Corey some time. I do agree Corey needs to run this team with the caveat that Eddie can't ask him to play 36 minutes like he did Myles last season. Myles really wore down as last season went on. With as hard as Corey goes at it on defense we are going to need 10 minutes/game where someone other than Corey is running this team. I don't EVER want to go back to a team where guys take plays off on defense to save energy. To me, that was the most painful aspect of watching last years team

Not happy with the "out-hearted" stuff. Deflects responsibility from the coaching staff. Leave that in the locker room. Coaching staff not blameless for free throw numbers either. Part of the preparation for the season and individual games is emphasizing free throw percentage and making sure the right players are in the game and handling the ball at the right time. We must play to get to the line, and make free throws. We can't not make free throws.

What does that even mean? We have no heart? The other team played with more heart? The other team wanted it more? If that is the case just say it! I did not see the game but it seems as though statistically it was a pretty poor performance for both sides.

Out hearted in game 3? Give me a break. This team should be chomping at the bit.Don't like that coach speak.

RHoops, I agree with giving Corey more rest because his defense does exert tons of energy. He is one of the quickest guards we have had and proper rest will let him maximize his talent.
Regarding blaming Eddie, they was a shift away from letting Corey run the offense and letting Daniels have free reign, but also Eddie might have had Corey and DJ out of the game too long. He also went to Freeman for 2 big second half baskets but because Daniels ran the offense at the last 5 minutes he never touched the ball at the end.So Eddie gambled with Daniels and it did not work out. On the other hand , he never thought the players would shoot fouls like that, especially Corey who is a good foul shooter.
RU Husky, if you watched the whole game for 25-30 minutes the team did out heart, out hustle, out rebound, out assist, out defense the Johnies. But for the last 8-9 minutes they did not, so Eddie' s use of the term is accurate.
The positive from the game is for 25-30 minutes this young team played one of the better road games for a RU squad in ages and they did all the things hard and with heart on offense and defense.
