PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 7, 2018) – Rutgers Head Men’s Basketball Coach Steve Pikiell will serve as a guest analyst for Inside College Basketball: Bracket Week presented by Kubota on the CBS Sports Network this Friday, March 9. The studio show on Friday compliments live conference tournament coverage from the Conference USA, Mountain West and MAC and keeps fans updated with championship week highlights from across the country.
It marks the second straight season that Pikiell will work as a post-season analyst for CBS Sports Network. Last year, he was in-studio for the network’s NCAA March Madness 360 show during the NCAA Tournament.
Brent Stover, Wally Szczerbiak, Gary Parrish and CBSSports.com bracketology expert Jerry Palm will join Pikiell on Friday.
Under the second-year mentor, Rutgers advanced to the Big Ten Conference quarterfinals at Madison Square Garden this past week via victories over Minnesota and five-time national champion Indiana. It marked the first time the Scarlet Knights won two conference tournament games since 1998.
“I think you're getting a dose of what we can be at Rutgers,” said Pikiell after a hard-fought Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals loss to No. 8-ranked Purdue on Friday. “I'm so excited about the future. I really am. And we're going to get better and better.”
“They compete,” said Boilermakers’ head coach Matt Painter. “They play hard. I know that's a basic thing. But when you face one of Steve's teams, you better bring your lunch. They're going to hit you. They're going to attack the glass. They're going to play hard.”
RU, which played the toughest conference schedule in the Big Ten according to Ken Pom analysis, ranked 16th nationally in offensive rebounding and 21st in scoring defense. RU was among the top three in the Big Ten in nine statistical categories.
“We've gained some respect,” said Pikiell. “People don't want to play us. My phone's not ringing as much, and I think that's a good thing.”
