BB Recruiting **PODCAST: Hoops Schedule, RHoops Recruiting, Peach Jam Updates and more!**

Class of 2002: I couldn't care less about playing Princeton as a "rival".
Seton Hall is 100% the bigger basketball rivals.

I also grew up in South Orange/Maplewood and spent a ton of time on the SHU campus (attended George Blaney basketball camp) in the 90s - so maybe I'm particularly bias though.

The "we've played them alot historically" doesn't hold much sway with me personally.
Syracuse/WVU/Temple is #3-5 on the football opponent list. Wouldn't consider them rivals.

It’s definitely a generational thing. For fans who are 50+, Princeton is the main rival. Younger fans it’s Seton Hall

Class of 2003. Princeton is a huge rival I looked forward to every year - know plenty of Princeton people to talk smack to - as is the Hall. We need both.

And Syracuse was definitely a big FB rival when we played in the BE.

Great podcast though. Lots of good information and Richie's dog even made a cameo appearance towards the end. FWIW- I'm over 50 and consider SHU a bigger rival than Princeton. Although I do think the SHU rivalry has less juice now that we are in different leagues and seem to target different recruits.

That's definitely fair. Rutgers first played SHU in bball in 1916. Rutgers joined the Big East for all sports in 1995 and since then, RU played SHU 44 times. In the prior 75 years, RU only played SHU 29 times. (73 total games)

RU/Princeton first played in basketball in 1917 and was played every year (sometimes 2x a year) from 1927 to 2013 (120 total games).

RU/SHU has certainly evolved into the more intense rivalry over the past 25 years, but RU/Princeton should've never stopped playing one another. It's a historic rivalry that is a welcome addition to the schedule

For history, I definitely see it. But it has been posted many times here - it's really a no-win situation for us and even more so now that we have realistic expectations of contending for the tournament every year. More SHU and MSU is what we need. Although I suppose the neutral court for PU helps a little.

Just get better games on the schedule. Princeton is a far better game than Stonehill, LIU, etc.
