Politi: Split time with Rutgers and OSU's New Year's Day Bowl? Scrap them.

I think if he goes through with his decision to coach (Co-DC) Ohio State he will create a PR nightmare for himself that he does not need. Seems to have already alienated some of the Rutgers fan base.

Ohio State is now your competition.

What is the point.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

My biggest complaint with the entire thing is that he is the CO Defensive Coordinator. CO, meaning someone else has that job also. I know people will argue that he is the one really running the show but the other guy has been there a lot longer. The first sentence Politi has practically ever written that I agree with. "They will be just fine without him and Rutgers needs him now".

Shockingly, everyone here bitched about this all weekend, and here it is on Monday in a Politi column.

Its funny. Many posters, myself included, think that in addition to being a penis-headed tool box, Politi unfairly slanders our University. But in some twisted sense, you could argue that with column like these he gives the fan base what they want. Or at least what they are asking for.

I agree 100% with Politi. His article is spot on and accurate, I don't always agree with him but here he's giving Ash sound advice. Let me be clear I don't blame Ash for wanting to coach OSU in their bowl game, I ultimately blame the AD for even entertaining the idea. The moment he signed that contract his loyalty is with Rutgers!!

This is like a date telling you that before a second date is possible she has to fulfill an obligation to her ex-boyfriend by accompanying him to a family wedding. Can't speak for everyone but a deal breaker for me.

He has a contract with OSU. They lose coaches more than other teams and probably have contracts to reflect that. My guess is he has to coach the bowl more or less (not that he wouldn't anyway). This is all a tempest in a teapot

"In other words, for Ash's first three weeks on the job, including the upcoming big recruiting weekend before a dead period, he will be splitting his responsibilities.

The move is not uncommon at this time of year as some assistant coaches on the way up to head jobs see it as honoring their contracts and displaying a final act of loyalty to their former employer."

He is honoring his Contract. That is both honorable and commendable. He is under Contract to OSU through the entire 2015 FB season, including its Bowl Game, and is/was/will be paid accordingly. What is so hard about that for all you very successful bankers/ wall street sharks/ fortune 500 CEO's to understand, Do you not expect the same from him when he is on your dime????????????? Get a life!!! Your team has been an extreme loser for years now, and a new Administration tries to right the ship, and you are still a bunch of crybabies. Lose him, and see where you are next!!!!!!

I always thought that once a coach made a decision to move on, he was pretty much let go immediately.

You are all a bunch of weenies, just like Politi if you think it is an issue. Thanks for giving Politi something else to write about. Thank you for your continued negativity. You are true loyal sons of biatches...

And so the NJ Media begins. Welcome to NJ Coach Ash! You ain't in Iowa any longer .....

Great point. People are always going after coaches that have worked for Meyer. It would make sense for something like that to be in the contract.

No, not really, just the same losers (either fans of RU or haters of RU) who like to complain about everything. This REALLY isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things IMHO.

A bunch of petulant, narrow-minded, shallow thinking, self important bunch of wacko cry babies have taken over this board. They deserve Steve Politi; in fact, they need Steve Politi.

Great article - agree 100% - and thanks for not being a Ledger-tard, by posting the link. As I said in another thread, I think Ash should be allowed one week to put together a defensive gameplan for ND (that's pretty standard during the season to have a week) and then I think he should be released by OSU/Meyer to come work full time at RU. We need him a lot more than OSU does.

I'd rather he spend the next 2 weeks 100% on Rutgers. And then spend a week helping OSU prepare for the bowl. He needs to be here immediately to start getting set up and recruiting before the dead period. At the end of December, there is less of a need for him to be on campus, so it matters less if he spends some time then in Columbus.

Politi's latest post presser article has backed away from all of this -

3. He defused his first minor controversy. Ash earned an ovation from the Rutgers staff in his room for his answer to a question about his plans to coach at the Fiesta Bowl with Ohio State rather than dedicating himself full time to his new job. I thought he should have done what most assistants do and leave now. He mentioned several of his mentors who have done the opposite. "I'll be up to the task and I can promise the fans the time I'll be in Columbus will not take away from what I'm going to accomplish here." Nicely done.

Is it true he's not going to be here for the big recruiting weekend or did I read that wrong?

Agree with all that except the part about extreme losing. We've had 3 losing seasons in a decade - winning bowl games and being ranked during multiple seasons... Far from losers here.

That works, too...

While a great press conference helped matters and swayed some fans, most RU fans would still want an RU coach 100% devoted to RU from day one but we begrudingly have no choice in the matter. Should be here now but we will live with it. He did break a contract and left Arkansas in a nano -second to go to OSU. Should have done the same for RU.

Ehhh- while I would prefer him to be 100% here, it isn't a big deal. It isn't like he is 100% OSU at the moment and it shows what kind of man he is.
He left OSU with Meyer's blessing and I'm sure that went a looooing way in him getting this job over the names we heard with HC experience. It also doesn't hurt to have his name mentioned with OSU as Rutgers new HC all the time.

Btw- Panther- I would rather my new coach finish out his duties then to have my 1 year coach hoping Rutgers would save him from his current situation...just saying- worry about your coach, not ours.

Don't think having Coach Ash on the OSU sidelines during a big nationally televised NYD bowl is a bad thing....its gonna be a great free game long RU commercial in an otherwise dead recruiting period...not much he could do here during the no contact holiday period that would bee more impactful...even coach's need to enjoy the holiday season with their families for a few days.

FWIW. Here in Virginia, there is an article in the paper in which new UVA coach, Bronco Mendenhall, said it was a deal breaker if UVA did not allow him to coach BYU in their bowl game.
