Based on your list I would say Oklahoma State, but overall I think Middle Tennessee State got screwed. They were projected as a 5 seed a week ago, a tough loss to a dancing Marshall team and a bad upset loss in the conference tournament put them on the outs, they had won 11 straight before those two losses.
While from a name perspective they didn't have any signature wins, their RPI and SOS were well within the deserve to make the tournament range. However, you could argue since USC beat them head to head, then USC should have been in over them.
Middle Tennessee could only afford one of those losses down the stretch...you are right the schedule strength was okay, they just never pulled any wins from them. Just cannot lose in first round of CUSA
Compared to Cuse, which mostly gets the benefit of the doubt, I think USC deserved in.

Must be a record for the # of teams with losing conference records (8-10) getting in.
NIT nothing to sneeze at either--not easy to get in, with # of spots taken by those mid-majors that didnt' win their league.
St Mary's didnt' play a great schedule, but in a single game--I'd take them over several BE teams...
Big East has been continually exposed in the NCAA Tourney. They will get exposed this year--no more than 1 team (Nova) will survive the first weekend--just like last year. Shoe should be an underdog despite lower seeding (didn't deserve an 8). Willard will get exposed again.

I also did not think that Syracuse, Oklahoma or Alabama deserved bids. They all had many losses and Jim Boeheim cries every year if he doesn't get into the tournament.
I would have no problem with the tournament reverting back to 64 teams. Will never happen but the teams left out can only complain on a relative basis compared to the last few who got in not because of how strong their resume actually was.

Plus USC has more quadrant 1 wins and an RPI 30 spots better. And so much better in conference. No way you can leave Trojans and put in the Sun Devils.
Sundevils actually beat teams....USC was 0-5...they lost to everyone in league in the tourney...asu beat Usc oops
overall rpi does not matter that much when the wins were compiled against mediocre competition in league..beating Stanford and Colorado doesnt get you into the field...beat Xavier and Kansas does

Why make up quadrants and then neglect the team who had all the old criteria in their favor plus more quadrant one wins plus finishing second in the conference and than put in the 9th best team in conference? If St Johns played our OOC they would deserve to be in???
I understand that but a common sense approach look at the optics of it would tell you if you're going to take the 9th place team in a league with 20 wins you need to take the 2nd place team in the league with 23 wins.
If that happened to Rutgers there would be a board meltdown.

Back when everybody played everybody else in their conference, conference record was a pretty good basis on which to judge a team. Now, with most of the major conferences not playing round robin, you have to go a lot deeper.
USC has pretty much no quality wins. They didn't beat the better teams in the conference and didn't have a great win outside of it. Sure it looks silly, but it's just another side effect of these oversized money-grab conferences. (Acknowledging that we benefited more than anybody from that trend.)

OOC sos was the difference maker there..OSU's was like 296 and Cuse in the top 20 I believe. Obviously the ACC is coveted by the NCAA tourney as ND almost got in despite doing virtually nothing but beat Wichita St and Va Tech/NCst
