Wrestling PREVIEW: RU heads out to Cali to face Fresno St.

Enjoy having former RU wrestler Lex Knapp cover the team, but he needs a better editor.
Match is Friday, not Saturday.
5 Major's, 1 tech, 4 dec = 37 not 36

Just busting stones....

I think we win easy, but still would be surprised if we win 6 bouts that have bonus.

I’m going to bust stones as well. I really appreciate Lex putting out these articles but I’m not sure how much prep went into this one. He calls for a major at 125 against a very solid, excellent on his feet, Garcia. This is a decision, possibly a toss up. At 133, I love Alvarez but he is a freshman going up against a previously ranked Gary Joint. Could Alvarez major him, maybe? But, the more likely bet is a decision. Tech fall at 141? I don’t see that against Lloren. Lloren took a tight loss 5-3 to #10 Moran. Aragona is awesome on his feet but not there yet on top. Probably a decision here. At 149, Gaxiola is very tough and took a ranked Cole Martin from Wisconsin into OT. This one goes to Fresno most likely via decision. Wright for Fresno at 157 is ranked. I haven’t seen him wrestle but he is the favorite on paper. Toss up. At 165, Turley is a lot of fun to watch a Donner is a tough wrestler. Kemp for Fresno is the son of all time great Lee Kemp and solid, if not great. Should be a win for RU by decision. Don’t see a major here. At 174 hoping Grello is healthy. If so he should win via dec against a tough opponent. At 184 it looks like the starter is Hunter Cruz not Kincaid as he wrestled the previous 3 matches. There was a dq in the Army match so maybe he can’t compete. Either way, Janzer gets a decision here for sure, maybe more, but like Aragona, he doesn’t really turn guys on top. 197, with Hokit out, either of our guys should win. Neither Pagano or Correnti are big bonus guys so a decision. At HWT with Nevills out, Colluci by major, possibly fall. If Colluci is hurt, he forfeited last few matches at Journeyman, then Esposito still wins by a decision. Best case, 30-3, RU. Possibly 21-9, RU.

A much better analysis realistically FOXRU.Travel might also come into play with timezone differences.Hope our wrestlers are ready to go..

First 5 weights are all toss ups.Garcia is average on his feet and solid on top.Joint was NQ and is big his best position is top.Lloren is tough CA kid who was always top 10 in high school and was at Utah Valley.Gaxiola is big and long best position is top tough match up for Angelo.Wright is a good wrestler in all positions be a really good match.165 I give the edge to Rutgers.174 Hemauer was a NQ at 184 last year not sure if Grello is 100% if so he should win.184,197 and HWT Rutgers should win all 3.Rutgers should win the dual

I’ll eat crow on this Aragona one though. Looking back, don’t know why I said tech here. 3-4 thus far though, I’ll take it.

Colucci major
Aguilar pin
Alvarez major

3 of the 6 predicted bonus point wins come in the first three matches. Just saying @FoxRU @RutgersAlum
Really, gonna puff out the chest on this one? I am way closer on the prediction than you were. You called a shutout. We lost 4 matches. I wish you had been right.
