Bill O'Brien: 15-9 at PSU, with a strong veteran team that included 3-4 NFL offensive linemen and an All Pro-caliber wide receiver who made a lot of mediocre throws look good. Revered as a great coach, heads to NFL.
James Franklin: 14-12 at PSU, with an FBS-caliber offensive line, largely because his predecessor chose not to prioritize that position in recruiting, and a team missing any semblance of quality depth. Horrible coach.
Don't get me wrong, OB is a better football coach than Franklin, who is much more in the CEO mold. But the perception of these two coaches, considering the situations each had to work with at PSU, are so different it amazes me. Granted, OB can point to some big wins (Michigan, at Wisconsin), but he had much more talent to work with overall.
