The dunk was Kiss’s vindication. Felt good for him
Meh, Sometimes you got to make your point in a situation like that, and the point was made. You just put your arm on the shoulder and maybe he spins around, goes after the guy again, and lands a double technical plus gets tossed out of the game. No need for that to happen.
It was very cool. KISS was frustrated ( he was tied up by a double a min earlier too). He was stepping towards the IU player and a T would have sucked there. I like Kiss but it is looking like he is struggling a bit with the speed of the game at this level.
Kiss was heated but listened to EO. Hood sign how much the guys on the team respect Gene.
Yeah I didn't like the way he totally saved the game from spiraling out of control either. What you're describing was arguably the most important part of the game.
Omoruyi did exactly the right thing in that situation - Kiss was not in a rational place at that moment, and only physically grabbing and pulling him away was going to penetrate. You could see as Omoruyi walked him down the court to the free throw line that he was pointing to his temple in the universal sign for "think!" to get Kiss's focus back on the situation and the ultimate goal of closing out the game.

Yes....and no. He went a little overboard. He did that in front of everyone, could have been a little nicer 15-20 seconds later. It was Harper, an emerging leader, that treated him as an equal and gave him a hug and smile.
Almost felt like Eugene lectured him in front of 7,000 people. The same guy who has on a few occasions made bad frustration fouls himself this year.
There is NO DOUBT in my mind that Eugene's play on the court is that of a LEADER. Definitely liked him getting Kiss out of the situation though.

Maybe a little? But in the heat of that moment, I think Kiss needed it... 5 seconds later, not as much. It's one thing to have a frustration foul - it's another to get a technical in a tight game situation because you lose control of your emotions.
Kiss plays with fire, which is great - and he plays close to the edge. So do Omoruyi and Mathis. Need to make sure that the fire is kept contained in late game situations like that, though, and I think Kiss got the message he needed to get in that moment.
Again I have no problem with Eugene getting him out of the situation like he did with the force that he did AND I like what Ron did afterward. Ron totally gets it.
Kiss almost single handed gave the game away. Getting a rebound stripped, then allowing himself to get tied up for a jump ball, then 2 missed FTs. All in the last 2 minutes. Total loss of focus and composure down the stretch. I could easily see a technical foul coming if Gene hadn't stepped in. Who gives a shit how he restrained him. When you're in a war, you don't have time to be nice.
Don't forget, his 2 turnovers lead to 2 wide open looks from 3. If those shots dropped, all you "be nicer" guys would be singing a different tune.

I don’t trust Kiss with the ball in key junctures of a game. He’s not a big time player. More of a role player to absorb minutes.
To be fair to Kiss, the refs were allowing him to get completely mugged on both the strip and the tie up. Fouls should have been called. To say they let a lot go on that side of the floor in the 2d half would be an understatement. "Let them play" taken to an extreme
I think Kiss is finding his niche. Come in without fear and taking shot whether it’s all net or clangs it. He’s a rhythm shooter and plays with passion which is great when it’s going good but bad when it goes off the rails. The holding onto ball looking to get fouled moves along with prior bad pass that lead to turnover needed a lifeguard moment (Omoruyi headlock) but after missing FT they slapped hands and all was good. Leadership is important when players are not playing within themselves and a good leader recognizes the language needed for each player.
What I liked about Kiss’s offensive game was when he took what the offense gave him and he took the drive to the basket.

That was a solid play by Eugene. It's also telling that Kiss is a bit of a head case. He allows himself to be double teamed in the corner instead of passing out of it, then gets aggressive after getting rightfully tied up. Bad play on his part.

I like Kiss when he's shooting open threes, and when he's fighting hard for rebounds. I get frustrated with him when he tries the superman pass and when he goes under screens.
Even though he's a RS sophomore, he's still playing at this pace against this level of talent for the first time - and he's still getting up to speed. And he's doing it in a good situation from a coaching and teammate leadership perspective. Have a feeling he's going to continue to improve and be very valuable next year.

He also almost forgot to get back after his dunk. He started celebrating and then realized the game want over. I bet he got roasted during film session.

That dunk at the end was nice because he anticipated the steal and pass but the rest of his play down the stretch was terrible
It has been mentioned by Choppin and Belly Full of Crap in their posts , that what Eugene did was absolutely necessary. Kiss was one second away from getting a technical foul and letting Indiana back in the game. He is a hot head, emotional player , but not very smart most of the time. That is exactly what I want my captain to do in that situation to defuse the grenade. Pike must have been smiling from ear to ear. When players police one another without needing the coaches , those are the best, most cohesive, chemistry teams. I guarantee that every player applauded Eugene knowing Kiss’s Volatile nature . Kiss was so volatile that his 80 % free throw average was worthless as he bricked 2 of them. Control is so important in playing college basketball and sometimes leaders have to step in so that someone doesn’t go out of control.

In the last few minutes he allowed a defensive rebound to he stripped from him in the paint.
He allowed a tie up when he didn’t even dribble or pass after inviting the double team.
And he nearly lost the ball again on the tie up in which he nearly drew a T.
Has to be stronger with possession than that. Nearly cost us the game (or it could have if the game was a bit closer).
