I am very happy that we are all discussing something pertaining to football and not criminal behavior. My take from the game and the apparent conundrum is quite simple. Laviano violated team rules and was suspended, Retigg did not and got the start. Did he get the start because he won the battle or because Laviano was punished? Did Flood use the breaking curfew as an excuse to not start Laviano who has been with the program since his frosh year? Was it too hard to start a transfer so he used Norfolk State as the sacrificial lamb knowing that he could sit Laviano and still win? Or did he know that since it was Norfolk State he could play both and still win? I know Caroo was benched as well but clearly he will start no matter what the curfew is.
With that said, how could Flood POSSIBLY start Laviano next week after only allowing Rettig reps in the first half. He played without his best receiver and a fresh non Division 1 A defense. Unless Laviano flat out won the job and Flood stated that prior to the suspension and naming a starter then fine, but after today I think there is a huge issue brewing with who starts next. Laviano potentially lost his starting job because he violated team rules, in my opinion he needs to win the job back once Rettig fails. He did not fail by any means today.
