Give me the odds (or percent chance, your choice) for each of the following to be the #1 QB at Rutgers for the majority of the upcoming season:

1.) Chris Laviano
2.) Hayden Rettig
3.) Tylin Oden
4.) Zach Allen
5.) The Field

Who is Field? Ted?
1. Laviano 40%
2. Rettig 20%
3. Oden 20%
4. Allen 20%

I guess you are counting the others out? Gio, Dare, etc?

It's like the race for President where there is no clear majority. Gave Laviano 40% since he has the advantage in experience, regardless of the other factors (arm strength, etc, which has not seemed to help Rettig). Allen and Oden have as good a chance as Rettig since they are dual threat.

I think bringing in Allen really adds another dimension to this qb competition. I could see where Oden is given another year to add weight and strength. I see the chances of starting as:

Laviano - 33%
Rettig - 33%
Allen - 33%

If Allen did not transfer Oden is forced to play early because of the lack of a true spread qb. What I like of this staff is that the qb will get pulled if he is not moving the offense. Not saying series to series but could see switching qbs quarter to quarter. May the best playing qb play.

GO RU

1. 55%
2. 9.5%
3. 15.5%
4. 5%
5. 15%

It's probably going to be Laviano.
Shocked you have Oden above Allen. My odds:

Laviano - 58%
Rettig - 20%
Oden - 1%
Allen - 20%
Other - 1%

1.) Chris Laviano 50%
2.) Hayden Rettig 10%
3.) Tylin Oden 0%
4.) Zach Allen 40%
5.) The Field 0%

Without having seen Allen I give him a 40%, but if he proves to have some real dual threat capability I see him over Laviano. Unfortunately I think Rettig has just not developed to the level that he is capable of playing at. The field is just that, none of them have showed they can overcome the top 3. Oden needs some time.

Great to see we've still got some brilliant mathematicians on the board.

That adds up to 110%!

Sorry, I always give 110%.
And I adjusted the numbers. I had a few versions of changes and forgot to adjust the rest.

Sarge has Laviano as the #6 ranked QB in the B1G. Interesting comment to his "story":
http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i..._top_10_position_rankings_quarterbacks.html#6

"My thing about Thorson is he was mediocre at best and Northwestern still managed to go 10-3 with him. Compare Laviano's first year starting stats with Thorson's and it's not even close in Laviano's favor."
Thorson for NW had a 50.8 completion percentage, 1522 yards, 7 TDs and 9 INTs, yet NW went 10-3.

The difference for NW was DEFENSE>. They beat Standford 16-6, Duke, 19-10, Minnesota 27-0, and Wisconsin 13-7. If RU had a halfway decent defense last year, RU would have beaten Washington State and Maryland, and perhaps pulled off an upset against MIchigan State.

One reason our fans can be optimistic is our defense should be improved over last year, and that should keep games closer.

1.) Chris Laviano- 40%
2.) Hayden Rettig- 9%
3.) Tylin Oden- 0%
4.) Zach Allen- 50%
5.) The Field- 1%

To me, it all depends on how effective Allen is. (I think he takes the first snap on Day 1.)

If not, then Laviano gets the call early because of the on field experience.

Rettig gets the majority of the snaps should Allen be ineffective and Laviano has transfered.

The Field (Geo/Dare) gets the snaps if Allen goes down and Laviano and Rettig have been injured or transfer.

Oden redshirts.

Another good question is, who will finished the season as starting QB? Laviano may start, but I doubt he will end the year in that position, just way too many limitations.

Week 1
CL- 50%
Allen - 50%
All others are Field at 0%

By week 5
CL 30
Allen 35
Oden 30
Field 5

CL 90%, Allen 10%
If CL is healthy he starts ... Although I see a tight leash.

When a player is transferring he's going to look at the possibility to play. Allen isn't coming here to be 3rd or 4th on the depth chart. Hell, even Rettig who didn't get a fair shot, leapfrog to 2nd without really doing anything. Allen is in the mix.

Tell you what...if you think Rutgers gets the 6th best quarterbacking in the big ten in 2016...book us for 7-8 wins for this year

Is Allen's nickname Rocket?

I find it funny how a lot of people are all in with Laviano. It sounds like the same crew who said Flood wasn't getting fired at the end of the season... no matter what.[roll] Seriously, what has Laviano done to earn the starting nod? Don't say his performance from last year merits another opportunity. I rather give the starting job to my daughter before giving it to him again. There is a reason Ash went searching for a QB after spring practice.

All in? Earn the starting nod? More like haven't seen anyone who can knock him off his precarious perch.
Rettig has still not unseated him, and he supposed has more raw talent.
Not seeing anyone else on the roster unseating him until we see someone who can unseat him in action.
Allen? Kind of hard to give him the vote with 2 passes under his belt. I'd given Oden a better shot at it than Allen right now since his skill set is still sharp after last season.

Based on the comments made by Ash about the QB during spring. There was no glowing endorsement for Laviano or Rettig or any other QB on the roster. Shortly after spring Ash was linked to (following) several QB who were looking to transfer. Where were you? Everyone knew about this except you.[roll]

I'm not saying Allen will win out just because, but Ash did seek him out. That has to mean something. And the 2 passes is so wrong on many levels. How quickly do we forget Allen was stuck behind Boykin. TCU had either one or two QB transfer out once Boykin established himself. Allen did probably the smartest thing by switching positions. It doesn't mean Allen isn't good, it just means he got caught in a tough situation. Remember Tony Pike of Cincinnati? Pike was 6th on the depth chart and suddenly after a few injuries he's a 2 year starter lighting up the Big East.
