Somebody asked 'When is the staff going to learn their lesson that converting de's into dt's is not acceptable in big time football'? I think this question shows a major lack of understanding of the time it takes to change a program and is an example of somebody taking yet another shot at Flood without merit. Apparently, the person who asked this question must have thought that Flood should toss true freshmen and RS freshmen on the field last season at DT?? This is not about 'learning lessons'. It is about the time it takes to turn over a roster and that guys who play DT often aren't ready for starting roles until years 3, 4 or even 5.

Flood took over a program that had a DL built for the Big East. Even in that conference people complained the DL was too small, but the results were good enough that there certainly were some supporters for the strategy. Clearly in the Big Ten, it is not appropriate. I think everybody agrees on that.

So last year, Flood goes into the Big Ten with the 2013 and 2014 classes that were his. These were first and second year players. If my chronology is correct, RU got the invite 2 months prior to NSD for the 2013 class so in reality Flood really only had knowledge of the conference change for the 2014 class with SOME opportunity to take action in the 2013 class but not much as RU was pretty full already by the time the invite came....again, if my chronology is correct. Despite this, clearly Flood was trying to get bigger, even before the invite, as evidenced by the guys he took in the 2013 class and then Wilkins in the 2014 class and then the guys in the 2015 class.
