If I claim married, zero with zero dependents now and then claim my child on my tax return later, will I get more money from my tax return and less up front? I'd rather get less $$$ up front and more later, just want to know the best way to do it with a wife and child. I know claiming zero is the best for getting less money now and more money later, but I'm not sure how it works with the wife and kid, thanks!

If you claim zero with zero dependents as you state, you will get a smaller take home pay each pay and a larger refund, technically. Many other factors may come into play however such as the amount of your compensation and the amount of your wife's compensation among others. Higher income individuals face a lot phase outs(itemized deductions, exemptions) which means you may not be entitled to deduct the full amount of each of these amounts. You also may have the Alternative minimum tax to contend with.

The IRS isn't enforcing these laws anymore. Just minimize your payroll deductions so you owe and then don't file a tax return!
