R.I.P. Mr. Spock

What a sad day. An icon in the world of science fiction has died. RIP Mr Spock. I grew up watching reruns of Star Trek on Channel 9 or 11 on Saturday afternoons. I will also remember him for being the host of In Search Of and for his appearance in as the creepy doc in one of the my all time faves the 78 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers

I was trying to think of the name of that show- "In Search of..." That was a great show.

Interesting side note - I had read somewhere that he and Tony Randall were considered for each other's roles on Odd Couple and Star Trek. RIP - great voice

I just saw that - what a shame. And he was only 83. He and William Shatner are iconic due to their roles in Star Trek.

My job here is done.

it scared the crap out of me as a kid...between his voice and the shots of UFOs, Bigfoots, Yetis, and aliens I had nightmares about that show

Don't forget he also joined the cast of TV's "Mission Impossible."

Here's a 1964 clip with Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner as guest stars in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E."

Every night of my freshman year at Rutgers, at 6pm at Pell Dorm, we would gather in the preceptor's room to watch the nightly re-run of Star Trek on Channel 11. Since everyone in the room had already seen each episode about a bazillion times, the traditional joke would be someone yelling out "I SAW THIS ONE!" as soon as the first frame of the show began.

That year, Gene Roddenberry packed the College Avenue Gym and presented the first pilot, "The Cage," as it was originally shot, and the Star Trek blooper reels along with a Q&A with the audience. The Star Trek "appearances" that later morphed into conventions had begun a couple of years earlier.

Who could forget the grainy footage of Bigfoot mugging for the camera in the Great Northwest?

Sad day. I appreciated how the new ST movies had integrated him in the plot. Besides an iconic character, his voice is just as recognizable as any other, like James Earl Jones.

Fixed it for you

Sheldon Cooper is going to be devastated. That show has lost two of it's iconic off screen voices recently.

Really enjoyed Star Trek and Mr Nimoy's character. RIP.

Great character + perfect actor for character. Yul Brynner and King of Siam were similar.

Great memories of my father and I watching the original series then going to see the movies. My mother never "got it".

You did Live Long and Prosper. RIP

No way man, that was real!

Spock is dead, Jim.

Sad that he did not really enjoy being Mr. Spock for so long after the series. Happy that he came to recognize the fan appeal of the character he brought to life before he shuffled off.

Died from COPD (3rd leading cause of disease related deaths). A lifelong smoker, lesson - Don't smoke !

R.I.P. to Leonard Nimoy. His Mr. Spock was the only being in the Universe who could keep James T. Kirk in check

I fail to understand why I should care to induce my mother to purchase falsified patents.
