Who remembers the great Linden team's of the late 70's that featured a front court of Aaron Howard, Rosey Peeples and Daryl Devero. One of the great public school teams the state saw at a time before the recruited parochial schools took over. Well Daryl Devero succumbed to cancer last night. NJ all-stater who went on to play for both Bill Raftery and PJ Carlesimo at Seton Hall. In addition to being a terrific basketball player he was a good guy who I had the pleasure to know as a friend.

Such a shame. As a Linden grad who still attends several of their games every season I realize how special Daryl was. That time was awesome and LHS led Camden the entire game in the state final game until the last few minutes when the Still kid fouled out all 3 of Linden's big kids (Devero, Howard & Peoples). Daryl played at SHU and Aaron Howard started at Villanova for I believe 4 years. Rosie Peoples died when he drown in a boating accident. Austin the point guard at Linden went to American University and started as a point guard there. What a wonderful team that was. Cancer is awful. It seems as if all I hear is people with cancer any more. I lost my identical twin to cancer 17 years ago and my wife 18 months ago. I myself have been fighting cancer now for 9 months but am doing pretty well. So many people like Daryl, my twin and my wife as well as many others have been taken away way too young from cancer. It is heartbreaking to hear this.

Byron Stratford was part of that team also, believe the junior year. His younger brother Troy was a very good football player, went to Boston College as a running back. Was a young Calvin Duncan also on the team when he was a sophomore?

Couple of corrections if I may. Byron and Troy Stradford are cousins not siblings. Also Roosevelt Peeples is very much alive and well and also a friend. It was his younger brother who drowned many years ago.

Yes, right they were cousins, been a while, knew they were related. I played against Byron. Good to hear Rosie is ok too, knew he worked as a security guard for a while.
