I have been accused of being a troll because I state the obvious. I have been a fan since mid 2000s and got excited by the success of the football team. I bought 4 season tickets for the first year and parked in the middle of nowhere. I'm older so the long walk was a hassle. I upgraded to the 3 rd row around the 45 behind the visitor's bench and got Scarlet lot parking. Those of you who have done that know the you are making a financial commitment to the school.
I enjoyed it with the guests that I would invite. It was exciting and we all took pride in the football team.
One of my best moments was at the Canadian Pub on the left bank in Paris watching RU p[lay #2 USF. When people asked where I was from it felt good to say NJ and that I was a fan of the team that was playing.
One of the other games I remember against USF was when we were down big and the RU fans were chiding the USF players and all they did is point to the scoreboard and nod their head. After Nova threw his last interception I started a chant of "Dodd". Like magic Schiano puts Dodd in and we start a comeback. USF score again (a FG I think and I start yelling run left (all other return had gone right) . I think it was Harmon takes the kickoff left and scores. Later we see the incredible Sanu catch followed by the TD to seal the gane . It felt good to get the USF bench's attention and now I'm pointing at the scoreboard.
We have a great recruiting class and quality coaches at all levels so there is reason for optimism. Schaino goes to the NFL and Flood is hired to keep the recruiting class together, By mid season I'm already questioning Flood's decisions. By the end of the season I'm done. The school calls to renew and give and I say "no". I tell them that when they find a different coach I'll return. The years since have only reinforced my position. I feel betrayed as a fan by an administration that has lost the desire to be competitive. I love the players and cheer for them every game.
If that makes me a troll so be it.
