Story on everybody's favorite website. NJ.com. Said something about scholarship caps if he continued to do both sports, it would have counted toward football.

Could it be they need the schollie for Bolin?
Bolin?

Gross improved tremendously during the course of last year's wrestling season. He has the size to compete and showed some real skills at the end of the schedule. Tough guy...needs some better conditioning. Looking forward to him next season.

Sounds like they want to keep a scholarship open.
Don't like that dual sport rule and scholarships.
You have to have that rule otherwise teams will abuse. Places like Bama, Texas, Auburn etc., will have no qualms about funding a program like wrestling and just using it to stack half of it with FB players who are "dual athletes". Or stick them on Track schollies thereby denying real track athletes an opportunity. It's the only way to keep integrity. Unfortunately, the few and far between kids like Gross have limited options. But in reality, you would see more abuses of an open system than kids like Gross being forced to choose one sport.

Yeah, in the 70's there were track teams with 150 kids on them. All funded by football. A lot of them did do track but only when it didn't conflict with football. Football hid kids in all sports back then and 90% of the schools did it that played D-1.

Since wrestling has become our go to sport, who would of thought?, this makes sense regardless of why.
