Below are some quotes from incoming recruits when asked why they chose Rutgers and you can quickly get the jest of our fortes; as always location, academic excellence, family ambience and competing in the B1G. Yes, we can and will bank the last one being a boost. But what is subtle is "excellence" by association, yes "we" have always known Rutgers as an excellent academic institution, but now it is profound and openly stated without rebuttal ( yea we still get, "You're no Princeton") But with B1G peers, we are greater by association. Condescension will wane with time.

“I originally became interested in Rutgers because it is so close to New York City.” There are many reasons why I chose Rutgers, the most important being the family environment. Also, Rutgers provides me with excellent academics and allows me to study in the specific field I wish. I am extremely excited to participate in the Big Ten with my future teammates and compete at such a high level...”

“I chose Rutgers because I knew it was the perfect school for me. This school is fantastic academically and I knew I wanted to challenge myself in the classroom and on the field.”

“Another benefit is that Rutgers is close to home, which was a big factor in choosing what school I wanted to attend. The overall feel of the school allowed me to know that this was my home. I knew I wanted to spend the next four years of my life surrounded with the best people in the best place, and Rutgers provides it all. Rutgers University grew on me and I could not be more thankful to have made the best decision I could when it came to taking my academics and athletics to the next level.”

“I chose Rutgers University because as soon as I walked onto campus, I immediately felt part of the ‘R’ family. I love the feeling of being a part of a big university that was close to home, has a huge variety of academic opportunities.”“ It felt like the best fit for me because it is an extremely large school and only a couple hours away from home.”

“I chose Rutgers for a few reasons. The first being the atmosphere is an intense, but a fun training environment allowing both enjoyment and development in the sport I love. Another reason is the people. Rutgers really prides itself on recruiting not just great players but great people, and I really appreciate that and respect it.”

“Especially after the official visit, I realized even more just how special everyone in the Rutgers family is, and I feel so special to be a part of it all. I chose Rutgers because it is a great school with amazing academic opportunities, too, and that is also important to me. I chose Rutgers for all these reasons and I cannot wait to start there in the fall.”

“The main reason I chose Rutgers was the close relationship between the players and coaches. I'm looking forward to joining the Rutgers family. I'm excited to attend school so close to New York City and the beach.” “From a young age I knew I wanted to spend my college years on the east coast I was looking into and when I mentioned Rutgers he said that it would be a perfect fit for me. When I visited, it was everything and more that I had hoped for. It was a large campus, was located next to my favorite city (New York), I couldn't be happier with the decision I made.”

“I chose Rutgers for a number of reasons, one of them being that the university is close enough to my hometown that my supportive family will be able to continue to come and see me play and vice versa, I will be able to visit home. I love the size of the school and the atmosphere that it provides.” “I know that by working with the other assiduous players and dedicated coaches, it will help me to reach my full potential on the field. While becoming a better athlete, I will also become a better student because of the high education that Rutgers provides. For these reasons and many more, I chose Rutgers.”

“When I first began looking at colleges I knew that I wanted to be a part of something special. It took one visit for me to know that Rutgers was where I wanted to call home. When I visited Rutgers, I immediately felt that family atmosphere with everyone involved in the program, from the coaches, to the players, to the trainers, families and fans. Now I am proud to say that I'm part of something very, very special.”

I think in the Ash era, the concept of "maximum investment" in them as a player, student and person is what is going to win exceptional football recruits over. Of course, several major schools can offer maximum investment, but I think it's becoming clear with Ash that he in particular loses sleep over this stuff and wants it to be better than adequate.

I don't think Ash was able to use the maximum investment terminology to his advantage with his first recruiting class, which came together in six weeks, but the first quotes out of the Juniors that have visited are reflecting this concept.
