We’ve whiffed on a lot of targets in 2019 I’m hoping we save the ship for 2020 which should be the class that puts the program over the hump.

We’ve had at least one transfer (except 2011) since I’ve been tracking since 2003. And I may have just missed it in 2011 - I have it listed as ‘None?’

Assuming you're talking about incoming transfers, from the 2009-10 to 2010-11 season we added Robert Lumpkins from NMSU.

From the 2010-11 to the 2011-12 season, we did not add a transfer. That was the year of Rice's seven-member recruiting class.

Outgoing transfers/early departures (this is what I have):
- 18: Sanders, Mensah, Bullock
- 17: I. Diallo, N. Johnson, J. Laurent
- 16: DJ Foreman, J. Goode
- 15: J. Etou, K. Okoro, R. Johnson
- 14: D. Campbell, C. Brown
- 13: M. Poole, D. Randall, J. Seagers, E. Carter, V. Garrett
- 12: G. Biruta, A. Carroll
- 11: None?
- 10: Rosario, Jackson, Okam
- 09: Chandler, Echenique, Morris, Pettis
- 08: Nelson, Sofman
- 07: Bailey
- 06: Waterstradt, Gibson, Douby
- 05: Quezada
- 04: Wooten
- 03: Sherrod, McCoy, Davis, Good

My point was not to get too hung up on holding 1 ship, since odds are there will at least be 1 more than that.

*EDIT: Just added Douby to '06. Had him wrongfully on my other list I just posted.

Boy that list is certainly a trip down memory lane. Unfortunately not too many good ones.

“Some people in the state don’t look at it as a great school, but it really is,” Mulcahy said. “People outside New Jersey think very highly of it.”

So true. Rutgers' reputation gains strength the farther you get away from it.

As a fellow Piscataway High grad, I can attest to Mike’s point. Everyone there was “meh” when you heard someone was going to college at Rutgers. After graduating Rutgers College, I went to grad school at a respected, private, mid-sized college outside the area. Both the students and the professors were extremely impressed with Rutgers. That’s when I truly realized how well-respected the University was. And I have experienced the same thing since in my travels. New Jersey doesn’t realize what it has.

We didn’t whiff on our targets. We got beat out. We went one for three on Massoud, Mulcahy, and Hyatt. We have two ships to offer so going one for three puts us in a good spot. You are going to miss on more guys than you land. That’s how recruiting 4 star guys works

Well said!

Going back about 20 years at a comedy club in Vegas I was seated at a table with several other people. I often wear the Rutgers watch my parents gifted to me when I graduated from RU. The woman seated next to me said, "I'm not so sure you'll want to sit here." Curiously, I said, "Why?" She jokingly replied, "I see by your watch that you went to Rutgers. You're probably too smart to sit at this table."

What year did you graduate from PHS? I'm a 1982 grad.

I was talking to my buddy about this at the game yesterday. I think it's going to come back and be a blessing in disguise that we didn't get either of the other two kids. Cuz I think we need a big man to account for doorson leaving. I would be surprised if we take anyone other than a true big (vs a slasher/combo fwd) with the last ship.

That's how I'm reading the tea leaves anyway.

But if we go in another direction I'm totally fine with it because it is very clear that Pike has a plan and he's not going to be deterred from it. I'm not so sure that in 30 years of following Rutgers sports I've ever felt this confident in a head coach.

Ahhh, the good ‘ole Bayonne park courts. I grew up in Bayonne in the 90s-00s and played on those courts a couple of times myself. I wasn’t nearly as dedicated or skilled to play with the older people. Just pickup games here and there with similar age ranges. There were a hell of a lot of people on good weather days and I lived uptown, so i definitely had to be in the mood for a game if wanted to play there. The town is very diverse with different ethnicities and economic backgrounds (practically mini-mansions to projects), so I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a grittiness to his game as he mentioned with his comment on uptempo, physical play at the courts. I can’t speak for other towns. There are always pickup games somewhere, but if he honed his game on those courts, I definitely think he’s got some swagger at least. As to how that compares to other basketball towns, I guess time will tell. :sunglasses:

Would love to get another 2019 guy on board but seems like all is silent. I suspect we'll hit the transfer market hard again.

Would also love an earlyish 2020 commit, that'd be huge.

Just because it is silent doesn't mean the staff isn't evaluating HS kids in the 2019 class. Every year several HS kids blow up during their senior season...usually bigs who are late bloomers...and they pick up HM offers.

Dec. 8 thru 15 and Dec 15 thru the 22 RU will be out watching guys and you'll hear more info about recruiting.

Disagree. We are fine with Johnson, Duke and Carter. We desperately need a scorer. Hoping for a 5th year senior. Someone coming from a mid major.

imagine our lineup this year with no doorson...

...yeah, we need another big.

no problem agreeing to disagree :)

College closer than high school. Grad school closer than college (except for the dreadful Newark semester with a full leg cast after suffering a broken ankle playing hoops at the new Busch gym). Never understood the desire of countless friends to flee and pay billions out of state, but finally had a close friend say to me about a decade later - ‘Frank, you were right’.

Duke will develop. He will take Doorsons place next year. I will go on record as saying not only will he take his place he will be better next season than Doorson is this season.

I hope you are right. Doorson is looking very good on the defensive end, and it is still early.

This is one of those situations where I hope to hell that you are right and I am wrong :-)

Defense can be taught. Jay Young will get him there. He is already better this year than last. He boxes out well. His positioning is better. He is a better athlete than Shaq and his stroke is better. It will come.
