Given all the player movement that's happening, this very likely will have to be updated. But here's where things stand heading into the upcoming season:

LOSSES:
  • Arella (WNBA)
  • Mael (Grad transfer)
  • Tekia (Grad transfer)
  • Diamond (Transferred to NC State)
  • Zippy (Transferred to Florida)

GAINS:
  • Kierra Sanderlin, 5-8 PG, Hoopgurlz #77 (4 years eligibility)
  • Awa Sidibe, 5-11 Wing, JUCO All American (2 years eligibility...I think)
  • Lasha Petree, 6-0 Wing, First team all MVC, MVC All-Defensive first team (Transfer from Bradley--2 years eligibility)
  • Oshlynn Brown, 6-1 Forward, First Team All-MAC, school's all time leading rebounding (Grad transfer from Ball State--1 year eligibility)
  • Jailyn Mason, 5-9 guard, 20.5 min per game, career 36.5% 3-pt shooter (Grad transfer from Arkansas--1 year eligibility)

Roster, as it currently stands (everyone who was on the roster last year should get an extra "free" year should they want it):

POSTS:
6-4 Sakima Walker (Soph)
6-3 Chyna Cornwell (Soph)
6-6 Aicha Ndour (Soph--though I'd think is a redshirt freshman)
6-2 Tyia Singleton (Jr)
6-1 Oshlynn Brown (Gr Transfer)

WINGS:
6-0 Lasha Petree (Sr)
5-11 Awa Sidibe (Jr)
6-0 Erica Lafayette (soph)

GUARDS:
5-10 Joyia Maddox (redshirt soph)
6-0 Liz Martino (soph)
5-10 Destiny Marshall (sr)
5-6 Stephanie Guihon (sr)
5-9 Jailyn Mason (Gr transfer)
5-8 Kierra Sanderlin (Freshman)

Ha! No idea given the coaching staff will have to weave in a lot of new faces. But I'd think, given their experience, we'll see Petree, Singleton, Brown, and Mason start, maybe with Martino at the shooting guard slot.

But Nov. 2021 is a long way away.

I've been wondering if Mason is comfortable as a PG. The games that I watched from this past year, she played on the wing and rarely dribbled. I don't know if we have a one woman press breaker on the roster right now. I hope Jailyn and the freshman, Kierra are working on their handles day and night.

Petree looks like she could play some point forward if they decided to go that route.

Agreed, right now PG is the biggest question mark. CVS could do a PG by committee where they need someone to get the ball up the court, then just need to start the offense. Unless Sanderlin comes in ready for prime time.

RU Women’s Soccer roster is loaded with NJ talent. I miss the days of Carson, Ajavon, Zurich, et al.

It’s not like there’s been loads of NJ WBB talent making an impact in the major D1 level of late.

Also soccer operates differently - RU has a direct feeder from PDA which is probably the best developmental program in the northeast.

In basketball, multiple AAU programs with high school programs in NY /NYC that come and go. Rutgers Prep and Franklin have produced some good players recently, but RU never seemed to have an ‘in’ with them. We used to have some success recruiting NYC but even CTK is not what they used to be and Kia’s school closed. And we never had a connection with the shore schools that have produced some specialists (3 point shooters) over the years.

Has anyone heard about Vicki Morris from ODU transferring to Rutgers?

Who is she?

With the rule change not counting the CoVid year toward eligibilty cap, do any of the transfer have an extra year of eligibility ?

This is crazy. So much turnover in one season. I hope things settle down across college sports and this doesn't become an annual ritual.

This will definitely be a challenge for the coach and players in terms of dealing with the player rotations. The ladies are going to have to come in with really positive and mature attitudes to make the year a successful and memorable one. If they all buy into the team concept and don't get too caught up in individual egos, this group can be more effective than last years. I say that mainly because of the depth. Can't wait til next season.

I give up on making a depth chart, lol, but we definitely have players now with tons of D1 playing experience.

Whoa!!! It started feeling a bit crowded a couple players back. Curious to know the thinking, on both sides, the coaches but also the last few players to come in. And how many can you have on a roster?!
We don't want to be the next Q Hills.
