Rowan University's new vet school will join just 33 others of its kind across the nation, college officials said.

Veterinary schools are so competitive because there aren't any. There're only 30 accredited Veterinary schools in the entire USA. Our farm Vets as well as our dog Vets had to go out of the country for their degrees. Rowan and Rutgers could open one and the demand would still be through the roof. The Vet School should be at Rutgers. Politics tops common sense.
Seems odd. Why aren’t there more schools?Veterinary schools are so competitive because there aren't any. There're only 30 accredited Veterinary schools in the entire USA. There's a severe shortage of Vets because people just give up, as there's limited avenues to pursue the field. I just don't get Rutgers thinking on this one as they already have everything in place to open one.
That's the million dollar question. No idea. A lot of schools offer undergraduate pre-vet classes which Rutgers does, put post grad there's only 30 in the US. If you don't get into one of those 30 schools for undergraduate you're basically screwed.Seems odd. Why aren’t there more schools?
My wife actually went to vet school for one year. Maybe she should have stuck it out. LolThat's the million dollar question. No idea. For Instance, UPenn only offers 4 spots per class for non- resident undergraduates. Class size for UPenn veterinary is only 150 and they're considered a large school. Finding a farm vet is damn near impossible and next time you pay that hefty vet bill, now you know why.
That should've been Rutgers Vet School, not the glorified teacher college in Glassboro.Matthew Edson, Rutgers Animal Sciences graduate (CC’07), Leads New Jersey’s First Veterinary School

Hopefully with a Rutgers grad running the Rowan Vet School, there will be some co-op opportunities and access for Rutgers students and grads from all three campuses. While I would have preferred it be established at Rutgers, at least New Jerseyans now have the chance to stay in their own state. In addition to not racking up insane debt, they will be more likely to stay in state after graduation helping everyone from farmers with their horses , cows, etc. to the average person with cats, rabbits, dogs.Matthew Edson, Rutgers Animal Sciences graduate (CC’07), Leads New Jersey’s First Veterinary School

It is a high burnout profession with incomes that aren't that high. There really is a severe shortage of vets
And when national firms like Banfield take over its a tougher career--like when NYU or Northwell does it with MDs----not what it use to be except if you escape to TexasIt is a high burnout profession with incomes that aren't that high.
I don’t know how the incomes can be very low. Almost twenty years ago, I had a cat that was put down because of a bad heart. Putting her down and cremation was $250 twenty years ago. I really liked the cat, but I was like, How much !And when national firms like Banfield take over its a tougher career--like when NYU or Northwell does it with MDs----not what it use to be except if you escape to Texas
Have a friend who was a medical director for banfield. Her childhood dream to be a vet quickly become a nightmare and she left the field. And when national firms like Banfield take over its a tougher career--like when NYU or Northwell does it with MDs----not what it use to be except if you escape to Texas
