RU Baseball v Michigan 6pm Friday , Sat and Sunday, story :

Well we're gonna need another huge effort from Howie because we've already stranded 5 base runners in 3 innings. Ugh.

I knew stranding those runners would hurt us. Michigan with a huge 5th and still up. 5-1 right now.

Getting taken to the wood shed. Need to reverse recent trend and win on Sat and Sunday. Not likely but gotta hope.

9-1 Michigan up in 6th inning. RU Ace Brey gets knocked out of the game.

Our pitching looks like has run out of gas. Brey can only carry the team for so long

14-1 Final. It appears J Harris did NOT play again. Did anyone notice him in the dugout? I only followed on Gametracker.

Need 1 of 3 here IMHO. Hopefully can get 2 of 3 at Maryland then will have likely have to sweep Northwestern for a shot at the 8-seed.

Help is on the way re: pitching. The big kid from Steinert (Muller) is looking great this year. Topped the kid from Gloucester Catholic (who is on his way to Florida State), a perennial powerhouse, 5-0 on a 2-hitter last week.

One of those days ... lacrosse got a beat down ... And looking like a loss in baseball.

Yes, in baseball we got our ass kicked. But I would hardly call a hard fought 14-8 loss in the B1G championship a beat down, because it wasn't. I watched the entire game.

Oy, baseball team is in the toilet
It has been for far too long. Its hard to get elite players from the northeast to not want to play in the south where the weather gives teams a decided advantage.

I am watching the video feed. Over the last two games, Michigan has scored in 10 straight innings. tough weekend for RU baseball

Michigan is a pretty good Baseball team. Here is the balance of the Big10 schedule, I'm not sure RU would qualify for the Big10 tourny even if we go 4-2 or 5-1, which is probably not likely anyway.

3 Games AT Maryland
3 Home Games vs Northwestern.

We gave up 14, 13 and 12 runs to Michigan in 3 games. That is 39 runs total or 13 per game. That is deplorable. We really need some good pitchers as well as a few guys who can hit like the players on Nebraska and Michigan. We need to have some pride and show something at Maryland next weekend.

Besides Brey, someone needs to step up on the mound. Frankly it's been somewhat disappointing.

Michigan has 7 players from California and one from Arizona. Michigan probably spent more on airplane flights for baseball recruits than Rutgers spent on their full recruiting effort. The Big Ten teams that are serious about baseball recruit beyond a 100-mile radius and have players and coaches showing up on the rosters of serious summer college baseball leagues. How many Rutgers players and coaches competed in the Cape Cod Baseball League last summer? And Rutgers baseball, in all its mediocrity over an extended period, has a staff of coaches with Rutgers ties. Why? Indiana baseball hires a Louisville assistant. Michigan hires the Maryland head coach; Michigan's assistant has a stellar record as an assistant in the southern California area. Rutgers is not competing, we are participating. There is not one staff member at Rutgers with the kind of credentials that would make them a candidate for a coaching position at another Big Ten program.

Like Wrestling, and other Olympic sports, Michigan probably has has the funds to give out full Out of State Schollies (unlike RU). Baseball , like most Olympic Sports, is NOT a revenue producer, so it depends on University funding as well as big donors in order to fully fund Out of State Tuition Room, Board etc as well as upgrading facilities. Until RU is full vested in the Big 10 payouts, not much will happen. And even after RU is fully funded, it will take a few years for the money to start helping the Olympic Sports. Don't look for much before 2025.

Are you saying that scholarship money for a Div-I baseball team's roster is not limited to 11.7 athletic scholarships -- that money can be doled out to players in other fashions?

No , what I am saying is RU gives out the max number of D1 schollies at IN STATE tuition/room/board cost. When RU recruits an Out of State Player, the player assumes the difference between In State and Out of State costs, , and add to the fact very few players get full schollies (Star pitcher, star slugger), RU is at a disadvantage recruiting out of state talent, same in all the RU non revenue sports.
