Tampa Florida!
#11 in rivals and only one mention of it buried in a thread. In previous years this would already be a 6 page thread. Lol.

#11 in Rivals because we have a bajillion recruits. I'm beyond happy with the quality of player we have. But I'm also smart enough to know we'll likely fall outside the top 25 when all is said and done, unless our recruits like Bo and some others get the bumps I think they should be getting.

It wasn't that long ago when we expected to get really good players, especially if they were local. As far as I'm concerned, we SHOULD be recruiting at or above this level . Keep it going

If you sort by the 'star average' of the 2017 commits, RU ranks around 40 , w an average of 2.95 stars/commit

Melton, Johnny Lewis and Johnny Taylor are all four star talents. They are as physically impressive as you can find for their respective positions.

Other underrated guys are Barrow, Hayek and Wormley. These guys are flat out good football players. You win more games with good football players than with good athletes.

Bryce watts has the potential to grow into a serious DB for us. Will be interesting to watch his development

Guess Arizona has a "bajillion" plus 2 recruits to be ranked #8. RU has two 4*s and sixteen 3*s with other recruits to be upgraded to 3*s and possible 4*s. I will take our rankings everyday and twice on Sundays even at this stage of the recruiting game. Heck just like RU can back out of the Top 25, RU can fall into the Top 15. How you like them apples?

The #25 team in 2015 - Arkansas - had the following:

7- 4 stars, 15- 3 stars, 1- 2 star.

Right now we're at:

2- 4 stars, 14- 3 stars, 3- 2 stars

Unless Melton, Lewis, Vretman, and Taylor get bumped up, plus we pull in another couple 4 stars, we likely won't break into the Top 25.

If you read my original post, I noted that I'm incredibly happy with the talent level of our current recruits and I think they're underrated. So if we're able to jump into the Top 25 at the end of the day once schools fill in their classes, I'd love them apples. But let's see it happen on paper. All that matters to me is come Saturdays, they're on the field playing and we've increased the talent level tremendously.

After last year, I will take anything positive. All good news is good news

That being said Rutgers is no different than all other schools in FBS. So our commit list is just a fluid as everyone else. New students will commit others will change their minds, some will get more stars, others will remain underrated. It is what it is.

SIAP, but I don't follow recruiting as closely as most, especially this early.

Does this list mean we no longer recruit Florida?

We have offered a bunch of players in Florida, I don't think that there any that seem likely at this time.

We still recruit Florida. Coach Aaron Henry grew up in Florida, so I know he does recruiting down there. We're in the mix for a handful of Florida recruits, but we definitely aren't going down there as much as we did in the Schiano era, for example.

#11 in rivals and only one mention of it buried in a thread. In previous years this would already be a 6 page thread. Lol.

Again it's not a top 25 class right now projecting.

What is important is that Ash has got kids in here that do not suck. So you can now spend your time going after 4 and 5 star guys. So if you miss, you aren't stuck with zero, one and two star guy filling out a roster.

I also think some three stars will be four by year end.

The B1G team that's catching up right now is Maryland. They just picked up their 4th 4* along with a 5* and a bunch of 3*s. And they are also using their own "Fence the Garden" method for DMV. It seems the more south you go the more 4 and 5*s there are. NJ doesn't have a single 2017 5* available. Is it just a bad year or is it just different rater's opinions? I know I'm not stating any major revelation but I've watched the tapes of quite a few 4 and 5*s from SEC territory and to my untrained eye they don't look any better than other 3*s in NJ and elsewhere. Granted, some 4 and 5s did look like 4s and 5s but a surprising number did not. That's why I'm not overly concerned with team rankings. I know Ash and Co. have trained eyes and are doing their best to bring in the best no matter how many stars they have.

Don't rule out a top 25 class just yet, we have a bunch of stuff brewing.

Eh? On what service? On Rivals they have 2. On 247 we have 3, btw. Regardless, MD has a great class so far.

Our Class with likely rank around #30-#40 when all is said and done, and people should stop looking at that like it is a bad thing. The shear momentum and buzz we have right now in recruiting is something never before seen at Rutgers. If Ash and Company exceed expectation in the first 2 Years I see #20-#25 ranked classes or better.

He is getting these commitments with nothing on the field yet to show them, and that mean alot.

Unfortunately, many miss the true state of recruiting by simply looking at stars. As Urban Meyer once said, recruiting stars are for the fans - that's it. Please don't get me wrong, this is not a "stars don't matter" post. Stars most definitely correlate to wins. At least, for the most part. There are exceptions.

That said, the true measure of recruiting is simply whether the coaching staff is getting the targets they sent out to go after from the beginning. These guys have a list of realistic targets that they formulate based on need. For Ash and his staff, there are probably about 5 so far that they have missed out on that they most definitely wanted - Valdez, Theobald, Feagles, Martin and maybe Miller. Just about everyone they wanted (PLAN A kids), they either got or they are still in contention of getting. There are no plan B back up kids on our committed list. This type of recruiting has never happened before, not even during the two years with Schiano/Hafley. It is simply down right impressive. What is even more impressive is the way they are laying the seeds for future classes. As they say, you ain't seen nothin yet. Wait till you see 2018.
