Having now watched the full game, and knowing that:
- This was team's second game, and first in 12 days
- The team left for WI the morning of the game
- COVID-19 in general
- WI is not a great team
A few more thoughts:
RU missed a ton of lay-ups, though oddly by some of our best finishers (Arella, even Diamond, Zippy too)--not too concerned given the culprits...for now.
The offense was lethargic in the first half, second half, particularly 3rd quarter, saw much better cuts, active movement. Until the team can show they can make 3-pointers, we will be zoned every game--needs to be focus in practice.
Great game for Zippy--18pts, 6 steals, looks confident and in control and aggressive. Player of the game.
Usual great effort from Tekia, though she needs to be practicing her FTs.
Mael has yet to get going offensively this year, but she's so active on the court, doesn't force much, and rarely makes mistakes.
Arella had an unusually bad shooting night, but was still active throughout the game, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 steals, and got herself to the FT line.
Singleton looked solid, particularly when she got more active in the second half. She fouled out though with about 6min left, needs to be careful since CVS doesn't seem to think the freshmen post are ready for prime time.
Diamond can simply score at this level, and love how fearless she is going to the basket. A true offensive threat with the ball.
Liz--more limited time, but she was about the only one in the first half who aggressively attacked the zone--she has an offensive mentality i love.
Overall, as others have said, I'll take it, given the circumstances and we couldn't make a shot in the entire first half. The press looks midseason ready, as does the starters' conditioning. Good to see that even with Arella going 3-14 from FG, we had three other players in double digits. Zippy and Diamond were unafraid to be aggressive offensively and to pick up the slack. Rebounding will continue to be an issue for the team, will need to continue to stay a focus. Only 10 turnovers though is a very nice stat.
A more limited lineup today, but that's what happens when you've played a total of one non conference game before you get into B10 season. Hopefully the bench gets more opportuniites moving forward.
