We have a total of 6. 3 by Grant, 2 by Gio, and 1 by Martin. 1 by our entire stable of RBs is abysmal. This from a team that wants to establish the run in our new spread system. Something needs to change quickly if we want to end up with more than 2 wins.

Thanks for stating the obvious. Stating that something needs to change is pretty darn specific.

Ash addressed the question on Monday with a no-nonsense, no-sugarcoating, straight-shooter:

"Running backs aren't any good UNLESS THEY HAVE PEOPLE TO BLOCK FOR THEM...."

Martin was actually leading the BIG in rushing up until the Ohio State game. He's been injured for the last several games so production has been down. We have very decent backups to Martin with Goodwyn and Hicks. As Nuts said, you need the Offense line to produce better. We had 7 straight 3 and outs against Indiana in the 2nd half when we had the lead and needed to run it to secure the win. We didn't! That's pour Offensive line play.

Last season the Running backs had 16 TDs combined. Big difference. Most of the same line returned .

We get to cute trying option runs with CL- Iowa game- we just need to line it up and smack them in the mouth. that is also the reason our defense wears down in the 4th quarter.

we have the wrong personnel to run the system. This year's offensive philosophy is fitting a round reg in a square hole. How many fake handoffs out of the gun can they do, that end up either tackled in the backfield or a forced throw. And if they do take the handoff, its way too slow for the offensive line to block for that long, and the plays get nothing out of it.

How many 15 yard runs have we had this year vs last year?

How serious is Martin's injury? He and Hicks were very good the last 2 years and Martin seems injured way too often and Hicks hardly ever gets a chance to run straight ahead. Things have really changed. We need Martin badly. Goodwin might be the better blocker but I don't think he is the answer. The O line has been a very big disappointment.

The O line blocked for 16 rushing TDs last year and about 18 in 2014 w a lot of the same personnel. I agree it's been a disappointment this year, BUT the O line now on their 3rd O Line coach in 3 or 4 seasons, and the blocking schemes and technique is very, very different. I think a lot of the difference is just a radically new system trying to be implemented and and OC trying new things that aren't always working.

Things can only get better in the next few seasons, right ? LOL. I graduated RU in 1975, I now hope just to live long enough to see our Football team become very good again, lol
