Rutgers’ Izaiah Brown Wins Third Straight Big Ten 400m Title

Overall, both the Rutgers men’s and women’s teams finished in last place at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. The men produced 21 points, the least of all 11 teams at the event. The women produced 5 points, all from Clarke’s performance, which resulted in the lowest total of the 13 schools at the event.

Give credit where it’s due ... RU tied for 11th with MSU on the Men’s Side ... great win for Brown ... was worried after his 200 run that he was hurt, but he ran a gritty race from the outside lane ... Go Knights!!!!!!

Need that win and Suriano to get RU over the hump ... Brown has the talent ...would love to see a trio of champions!!!! Someone is going to do it!!!!!

I am not certain where Brown stands for the NCAAs. His winning time this year was over a second slower than his winning time last year and he was pushed winning by only .03 seconds. His performance is only the 21st fastest time in the NCAA Div 1 this year. His winning time last year would have him as the third fastest. Hopefully he will be able to run this year and can get to his pr of 45.32 or better.
Brown did not qualify for the finals in the 200 meter trials but ran his fastest time in the heats. Going in, he was not projected to qualify bases on season performance lists.

That dive at the end reminded me of the last olympics women’s 400 when shaunae Miller dove to cheaply beat out Allyson Felix. Only this time the dive didn’t work!

Thanks for clarifying the 200 ... I thought he’d be a lock and just missed!

Any reason why Brown did not compete in the IC4As ... hurt again, or precautionary? ... IC4As were huge during my years at RU ... guess it’s lost it’s luster.

Maybe a few more wins by our athletes will get his attention on T&F, but he is doing a great job overall and money talks. Right now the "money" sports for RU look to be FB, BB, Wrestling, WSoccer and MLax. Baseball is also getting more help and MSoccer and WLax will benefit from monies being spent.

Football and men’s hoops are the only money sports. Really need to get above .500 in both.

Nice to see the crowds for wrestling, but it will always be a niche sport and any nominal surplus (profit) there is tiny compared to the enormous deficit of women’s hoops, and lesser ones in baseball, both lax and both soccer programs. But that’s not much different than anywhere else in the B1G.

I don't have any specific information. My guess is trying to not take any chances of his running in the NCAAs this year after missing all 4 in his career so far. He was entered in the 400 meters at the IC4A but did not start. The IC4A meet has lost some of its luster with some top schools (Georgetown, Villanova, Providence) focusing on the big east and rutgers in the Big Ten. The Big Ten is a much tougher conference for results than the IC4As.
Tobi Tella won the TJ but was only 7th in the Big Ten. Burgess was second in the 200 meters but would not have qualified for the final in the Big Ten.

The update on Brown is he did not qualify for the NCAA indoor championship this coming weekend. The top 16 times qualified and Brown's best time this season was only 24th best.
His winning time in the 2017 Big Ten would have qualified him as the third fastest but he
has not reached that level this season. I am now surprised that he did not run in the IC4As to try to get into the top 16.
