My sense is the weight of expectation was a bit heavier than the team could carry. Hindsight being what it is, would it have been better to win a couple of games then lose one, win two or three then lose one? Perhaps the regular season record would have been a little better, 21-9 or 20-10, instead of 19-11 after being 17-3. A slower accumulation of wins probably would have avoided a significant amount of coach-bashing and condemnation of the team. I think the turning point of the season was the Nebraska game.
