Zappaa, I hope it is OK to ask you this. I was wondering if at any point, did any Rutgers Athletic administrator or baseball coach ever reach out to your Dad to ask his opinion about making the program better or individual players--whether on an informal basis or a full-time position? Have they ever reached out to any of the former major leaguers in the area ? Between former Phillies,Yankees, and Mets, there must be a fair amount.

Lou, nice suggestion, but I don't think he would be able to fit us into his court appearances schedule.

Seriously?? Are you in grade school?
Rick peterson reached out himself. For some reason hill didnt accept the offer to have the best pitching coach of all time. Given that information I doubt highly that there was ever a serious offer.

Sorry I missed this.
Fred Hill and my dad we’re good friends, just as I was.
You can be assured Fred picked my dad’s brain on many occasions.
After Fred retired I hosted a fundraiser at our museum for the indoor baseball workout facility, where I addressed the team and donors.
That’s about it

I would also wonder if Jeff Torborg was ever consulted. Nice guy and I would imagine he would have if asked.

The baseball team had a nice dinner for Torborg when his RU number was retired in 1992. Got to meet him and some other old timers. Coach Hill was a very well respected coach and very active all around NJ.

It was fairly common for former players to come by. Eric Young also came through for a workout while he was a big leaguer and I remember thinking Joe Lit turned a better double play, though it was clear he had another gear when running.
