Rutgers develops variant specific covid test

And exactly why is this being posted on the sports forum? You have a CE board which I ‘m sure is where it actually belongs. For 2+ Years posters have been told it’s for Rutgers sports . I ‘m glad for the discovery but it means very little. Tell us an RU scientific group has developed a vaccine for all SARS related covid variants . That would actually be a great thing. How did the saliva test go?

The truth must bother you. It means very little since It won’t stop anything. Find a vaccine which works on all variants present and future. Funny how more people who have already had either Delta or Omicron and got boosters 2 & 3 got covid variant BA.2 which is much less virulent . This is not my info but from the CDC, State-of NJ and a Mayor’s weekly report in a city of of 100k . So get over it … it’s been here for awhile … it’s going to be here much longer. Sorry to upset the triggered.GO RU !!!!!!!!

Belongs on the Rutgers board, perhaps, not the CE board.

And why would you have a problem with such positive news? No real counterpoint to argue.

The only that belongs on the CE board is you. As usual.

Bob is off his meds again.
Bob is spot on…I complimented the discovery but it’s like the saliva test. Big hype …then fizzled out. This does absolutely nothing to stop the virus , it’s mutations nor the new unknown threat in children under 6 hepatitis from adenovirus which has always been common. Finding the liver severely damaged but no trace of the adenovirus in the actual liver but the bloodstream. Now that’s something to work on Rutgers. Also please keep your eye on the XE variant which is the next one up in the alphabet sequence a combo of delta -omicron in the victim .

Please contact Dr. SANJAY TYAGI and tell him all that.

Please.

I'd suggest Rutgers research is on topic for the "Rutgers Issues - academics, campus life, and more!".
Though I agree the title is not phrased well.

I see you don’t like diversity of thought. There are earth shattering discoveries made daily this is ok but doesn’t end the problem.

I was so concerned getting the link to work, I screwed up the title. I thought this was a great story and showing how Rutgers is a great research university. Didn’t realize it would be so controversial! I realize that I didn’t include an OT so I guess that’s why it got moved but it’s great for RU to get positive news, not sure why anyone would complain about this.

It’s not controversial at all. It was a great accomplishment if it helps get us to the point of getting one proven vaccine that works over 90% ,and is effective against all covid 19 variants. There are some who immediately were bent out of shape when a criticism or opinion was voiced . Will this test it be better than the now defunct spit - saliva test which never took hold . I have learned one thing on here several very triggered folks.

Because ...Bob.

It was moved because it fits in this forum, though.

The Saliva test was used a lot in NJ. I know Essex County used it predominately.

Very few places used the saliva test and that is well known. . It was one of the initial break throughs in testing for covid . Soon after we had several others which surpassed it in accuracy. My point is simple , as great as the new multi variant test is it doesn’t mean anything , unless each variant has a vaccine or they release one which covers all variants old and new ones which will come over time. Already the CDC ( HaHaHa) is forewarning of over 100 million infections in the Fall. Remember when doctors and media would tell us about the upcoming flu and cold seasons ( SARS) … get those flu shots which are hit and miss. People are already making plans not to get a 4th booster injection and why? Initial 2 shot series , a booster ( most got covid anyway) now most who had the 4th injection again have gotten covid. You just can’t can’t keep subjecting your body to shot after shot in less than 8-10 months. That’s territory science knows nothing about.

It's well known? I work for rwjbarnabas and it was used a lot in our system. Also by Essex County. It was very convenient. They hand it to you, you do it in your car and drop it off. Also the mail in COVID test I got from the state was the saliva test.

The new test will be used in research obviously. The more information we get the better.

It was used in the beginning 2020 but had some flaws .It was soon replaced by other testing which proved somewhat better. That particular state saliva test was an improved version of the original from 2 years ago. Why only Essex County? Never heard anyone I know from this area claim having the saliva test. What good is it going to do when mutations are occurring every 4-6 months? The past several variants have been predominantly mild and less lethal. The problem is now we have several variants melding together forming combinations. Pretty soon we’ll have variants with 3 to 4 combing like Delta-Omicron - BA.2 BA.3 etc. We also have the XE being looked at Now . 6 weeks ago they were claiming herd immunity was here. Vaccinations are down and there is a very good reason why . People can’t keep getting booster shots every 4-5 months when they’ll still get Covid 19 again and again.
