Football Rutgers Football DE Wesley Bailey to enter Transfer Portal

I'd image that some of the players with 1 year of eligibility left and who have been here for 3 or 4 years already that some need a change of environment. Sam Brown is an example.

It’s too bad we don’t have the resources to pay him to stay. When he plays he does well no reason why next year with rehabilitation and time that he won’t be very effective. I doubt we will get a DE Starter from a power 4 conference coming to Rutgers to replace him.

Don't care anymore. I read 25% of players(seniors?) in the portal last year.
Pay for play just absolutely sucks and I don't give a frack if it works both ways. Buh bye.

Under next man up :
2024 DE recruits (who I think red-shirted):
Farell Gnago, Elijah King, Tycoolhill Luman, and Tyclean Luman
2025 DE recruits:
Canaan Edwards, Robbie Johnson Jr., Raedyn Bruens, and Miron Gurman
This is where the extra month of practice and another game really helps us. Not having a DC during this time does hold us back some.

It’s not like there aren’t other coaches to pick up the slack. It’s a couple weeks of practice not a season
True. But it’s still a change. I think back to how he got this defense to respond during the bye week and stretch run. But who knows? Maybe we find the next DC from within over the next month.

The sad part is a number of these players looking for (more) money end up without a school, not the amount they were searching for, the playing time, or success at their new school. Sometimes the gamble doesn't pay off.
The outcomes run the gamut but the large majority find new homes. Reasons for leaving also run the gamut.

I understand many players in the portal find a home, but you went from 100% of them with a home to 85% (92%) without one. I don't gamble because the odds are against you most of the time.
Yea but that 100% might not have the same opportunity for money and/or playing time. Also it probably wasn't 100% either because we know players could get run off too so now they're just running off on their own.

People complain about the changes in CFB but imo it's been great on balance. Schools are doing things they've never done before or haven't in a long time. Opportunities are as good as they've ever been.

Changes have been great ? Have not heard that said from anyone related to college football.

A lot of personalities say it. Nothing is perfect but you don't get stories like IU, ASU, Colorado, Vandy beating Bama and being bowl eligible and competitive, TCU a couple years ago etc..without these changes. Dillingham is in the middle of a playoff run and told his players that want to go in the portal to do it now don't wait and supports finding them a new home but they're going to be around for the playoff run. It's usually the old guard who don't like change or people who want to keep their grasp on power that complain. Frankly there's just a "woe is me" attitude that pervades things just in general anyway.

Not only are you getting teams lower down the totem pole having their moments in the sun and being able to make quick turnarounds but you're also seeing that it's harder to create super teams because talent is spread around much more now than before. Everyone is flawed. Kirby Smart made comments that the talent around most important position on the team, the qb, is spread out more and that's helped a lot with parity. This year it's hard to predict with certainty who will win the playoff. It's as wide open as it's ever been and even the teams that don't have a chance to win it all still probably have a decent chance to burst someone's bubble and snag a win.

These are all good things for CFB.

Not having a DC here is not as big a deal as OC. Schiano has been a DC here and elsewhere. His philosophy will be what will be the foundation for the defense that a new DC will just build upon.

As someone who has experienced transferring from one school to another, although in a different era, I understand that the player is always at the mercy of the sending and receiving schools. Too many people are involved who don't have your best interest at hand. Many of these players are transferring on the advice of someone who isn't in the player's position. Players are buried on the depth chart, and I see why they hit the portal, but starters and other important players hitting the portal are never about the right reason for the player.

Players getting run off is not as widespread as some believe. Leagues like the B1G have rules in place to prevent outright devilish acts. This is when I played, and each year, you signed a document to cover your scholarship for that year. Even the SEC doesn't subscribe to such acts as they once did.

These are big boys making big boy decisions. Some will work out. Many will not.

Do you think that he's already found it though? I can't imagine going into the unknown coming off a season-ending injury without something in place. I wish him well though.
No one knows. You just hope he chooses wisely. If he goes to a place like Louisville, then it tells you he is going for the payout, and it was likely already in place.
