Rutgers Football has been experiencing some tackling woes on defense this year, can it be fixed?

From what I’ve seen, they have been slanting the DL at times. In my opinion, the larger issue has been LBs and sometimes the safeties overrunning plays and being a little out of position which has resulted in the grabbing and reaching on tackles which has led to the missed tackles.Still think we need to put in the DL shifts like under GS 1.0. Confuse the OL blocking schemes just a little bit.
We have many cases of D players taking themselves out of plays and then reaching.. arm tackles. It's all being in the right position to make the tackle. have seen some shoulder tackles without wrapping as well... but that is usually by someone who should not be called upon to make the tackle.. DBs.
Eat lots of garlic .Breathe heavily on opponent .Should be easy to tackle him.I assume rugby style tackles are not on the table.
I think that is classic GS teaching.. do your assignment. It is also why our CBs don't look for the ball... do your assignment and do not look up and get fooled by what the O wants to show you to fool you. Goerge Johnson.. giant Rutgers DE would have some NFL years ahead of him.. but game after game he'd push inside and the ball would go outside right near him.. and if he had been reading ball teh whole way would have made a whole lot of plays.. but instead.. he was being trained to just do his assignment. From what I’ve seen, they have been slanting the DL at times. I cannot argue with GS overall results on defense.. but I cannot help but think there was to ba a happy-medium between read-react and doing your assignments... which take you out of plays as often as they help you make a play. In fact, as scouting game film has become easier.. perhaps "doing your assignment" just makes you more predictable.
