FB Recruiting Rutgers Football lands commitment from 2026 Ohio linebacker Joey Kopec

oh boy dunk GIF

You know this how ?
a junior with only MAC offers but "under the radar"....

All seven of his other offers came from the MAC, with Akron, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Buffalo, Western Michigan, and Toledo sending offers. Kopec also took unofficial visits to Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, and Penn State in 2024.

At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Kopec is the first commit for new linebackers coach and Co-Defensive Coordinator Zach Sparber. He identified the linebacker as an under-the-radar talent, but a high-ceiling talent nonetheless thanks to his athleticism at the position.

As a prospect, Kopec is an all-around athlete with great speed at the linebacker position, with a 4.43 handheld 40-yard dash. Kopec has worn plenty of hats for the Royals, playing linebacker and running back on both sides of the field.

In his junior campaign, Kopec racked up 85 tackles and four for loss, along with six interceptions on defense. Over the last two seasons, he has scored 22 total touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball, even trying his hand passing at times.

He also excelled in other sports, starring in track and field and basketball at Cuyahoga Valley.

At Rutgers, Kopec draws comparisons to former Scarlet Knights standout linebacker Deion Jennings, though Kopec projects to be a better athlete and is an extremely rangy linebacker.

he may or may not prove to be a ‘good get’ but the blind homers are coming out in full force already. the offer list thus far is weak and does not suggest a good get. He committeed to the only high major offer so far.

It says a lot when not one commit ever was questioned here.

Whether you end up being right or wrong, better to just shut up.

Let a commitment thread be what it’s supposed to be.

Solid pickup.
Your post is wrong.

Its true he doesn't have all offers yet but if a slightly undersized kid who runs a (reported) 4.43 is getting official visits with a HS season to go then I think of him as above the usual Army/Navy/AF./Colgate level recruits. He took more official visits to Ohio St, Akron and PSU than Rutgers so I would write the players name down in chalk more than ink right now. He could even end-up a safety

Is it supposed to be a commit love fest or a rational discussion ? I will be right of course since I said he may or may not prove to be ‘good get’.

Point is, every single recruit ever has drawn the same applause here. Every one. You’d think with an abundance of good gets we’d have had better than a 3-6 conference record a time or two.

‘Under the radar’ is not a favorable attribute.

You would post negativity even if he was the #1 recruit in the country. Best that you sit this one out, yout shtick is tired.

Negativity is the accurate lens based on results except by twisted supporters to whom Schiano’s 3-6 conference records is orgasmic rapture. Shelby calls it like it is.

Reality doesn’t exist here. Reality is what the rest of CFB thinks. If enough people like you got your heads out of the sand there would be high expectations.

So then any time we get a commitment it's a negative? Your obsession with Schiano automatically takes your mind to "if Greg signed him he must not be a good player"? Must be rough going through life looking for the negative in everything.

And "people like me"? You have no idea what think, unlike you I don't feel the need to spew every thought that comes into my head on this board. And FYI, my thoughts on Rutgers include both positives and negatives, like most rational people.

And look at the title of this thread....it's about a young man choosing Rutgers. I'm sure you could find plenty of other threads to post your vendetta against Schiano in more appropriate discussions. You are like Rainman...repeating the same thing over and over in multiple places...as I said, your shtick is old, tired and predictable, give it a rest.

Shelby’s points above aren’t primarily digs at Rich Kotite Schiano. They are directed toward the pathetic pollyanas here who rejoice in everything he does. The recruit might be a future star, but this homer nonsense that every single recruit is a ‘good get’ to be celebrated is pathetic. Being “under the radar” isn’t a positive.

More to the point, if Schiano were to cause torrential hot diarrhea to rain down on posters you and others would say how much you like the warmth and the smell is surprisingly nice. You know that’s true.

But since you bring it up, sure. He hasn’t accomplished anything noteworthy for Rutgers. How many Big10 fan bases would prefer Schiano’s overall results to theirs ? Purdue and which others ? I’ll wait.

Do you have many friends or hobbies?

It’s one thing to not be a fan of Schiano.

It’s quite another to build a message board persona around it like you have. It’s pathetic.

Do you know the difference between unofficial visit and official visit?

He's taken ZERO official visits because those don't start until May/June at the earliest for the 2026 class.

In the upper right hand corner - just above listed teams on his Rivals page - it says "Official Visit - Showing 17 of 17."

LOL, let me help you out. There's a slash between "Official Visit" and "Showing # of #. They are two different bits of information. The latter changes if you click on "Show All" and expand the "School Interests" section.

Official visits are denoted as a blue dot in front on the visit date in the Visit column.

Many RU recruits don't show blue dots near visits - Raymond with eight but no little circles.
Raymond

Surace shows one little circle for RU but he had 14 visits total so I guess 13 of them don't matter?

I can see why people stopped using Rivals for recruiting

So you’re gonna wait for him to possibly flip to Ohio State if they offer to give the commitment to Rutgers credit? Got it lol

LOL, blaming the site for your lack of understanding of simple information.

The mental gymnastics some of them go through is funny. Meanwhile they all wet their pants the minute a bigger school offers a commit.
