Here is a rundown of what Rutgers Football head coach Greg Schiano had to say after practice on Wednesday
-- Ed Rogowski, the team's new long snapper, was brought in by a tip from a friend of Schiano's. He said Rogowski was looking to go into the portal and play D-1 ball, and because of the uncertainty at the spot, RU recruited him. "Glad we did, it's worked out."
-- Schiano said Deion Jennings had a good offseason. Mentioned he had shoulder surgery after the 2020 season. He was slated to play more in 2021 if it wasn't for that. He had delayed production. Schiano said Jennings jumped out to him as a smooth athlete and it was hard on the LB to have that set back. "He's developed into one of our better players."
-- I asked about having TE Matt Alaimo back and Schiano said he's a smart and experienced tight end. "We need him. "He gets things figured out not only for him but everybody." Said it's important to try and do everything to have him hold up and get his stamina back.
-- Sticking with TE, Victor Konopka didn't play against Iowa, and he won't any time soon it sounds like. Schiano said he's not out for the year -- at least not yet -- but there is no timetable for his return. "He has an issue and we're not sure when he'll be available again. He was coming on too. It's a shame."
-- Schiano said the team embraces and gets excited for big crowds even in road games. They've been in venues like that before. The crowd will be a factor even if they prepare for it.
-- No update on Noah Vedral or Gavin Wimsatt's status for Saturday.
-- Schiano said he took lots of things from his time at OSU that he integrated here at RU. Didn't get into specifics, but he got to see different ways to run a program and more.

Kessawn Abraham
-- Said OSU will be a challenge, but they are focusing on themselves on defense. They see it at a great opportunity.
-- They don't pay attention to underdog stuff and they just want to improve every day.
Mayan Ahanotu
-- Said the Iowa game was a tough loss but they have to put it in pass and clean up the mistakes.
-- Said they have to be clean on what they do on defense to match up
-- I asked about if he thinks this is a measuring stick given how well the defense has played so far. He said no and that they just compete.
-- OSU can hurt you in a lot of ways, and Ahanotu said it comes down to film work and preparation to help get ready
-- Ahanotu is from Florida and Hurricane Ian is currently hitting the state. He is praying for his friends and family. When he's on the field all his outside thoughts go in the "thoughts box", afterwards he picks them back up and checks on his family. All good so far.
