Do people still write checks? I write about 10 checks per year. I still have my checks from 3 bank-name-changes ago.

I hadnt written a check for more than a decade. Recently when a buddy was getting married I realized I would have to write a check as a gift...
The only checks I had were ancient and said Wachovia bank. It doesn't even exist anymore as wells Fargo bought them. Turns out the old checks still work. I still have 499 left in a book of 500.

The situation may have something to do with Rutgers itself and the licensing and trademark personnel at the University not doing a better than average job. Historically Rutgers as a university has been slow and behind the 8 ball in doing things well in the area of marketing and promotions.
I used to order Rutgers checks from IdentityChecks.com, but it doesn't offer them any longer.

The B1G10 has that horrid knight on it. :-( The return address labels are nice and the Carousel checks allow you to put a picture on them of something Rutgers related but they warn that the copyright laws are very strict and they may not be able to make what you want....which goes to RU62's comment about licensing restrictions.
